Sustained private investment in fragile environments often comes down to whether businesses can keep operating through disruption. In Haiti, Caribbean Bottling Company S.A has had to navigate fuel shortages, supply interruptions, and periods when production could not continue. In this #IFCTrendlines episode, CFO Tamara Guerin Barrau describes how the company has adapted in real time to maintain operations, respond to demand, and continue hiring. With support from The World Bank Group, including IFC, these efforts have helped CBC grow to employ around 600 people while continuing to invest in its operations. The conversation highlights the practical decisions behind sustaining jobs and keeping businesses moving forward in a highly constrained environment. 🎧 Listen now and subscribe: http://wrld.bg/nypn50ZjGfA

Sustainable finance can do more than fund projects. In Türkiye, IFC's long-standing partnership with TSKB demonstrates how capital, expertise, and sustained engagement can help companies become more competitive, resilient, and inclusive. Together, IFC and TSKB have supported investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, workforce participation, and business practices that strengthen long-term performance. At companies like Akcoat, that support is helping create new opportunities for women in manufacturing while strengthening productivity and competitiveness. More broadly, it is contributing to a private sector that is better positioned to adapt, innovate, and grow. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ehbjYN5R

In countries affected by fragility, conflict, and violence, jobs often start small. Birama Sidibé of Agro Biotech Mali explains why agriculture—and the micro, small, and even "nano" enterprises within its value chain—are critical sources of resilience, income, and opportunity. #FragilityForum

As countries look for new engines of growth and job creation, the creative economy deserves far more attention. Fashion, film, sports, digital media, immersive technology, and the creator economy already support millions of jobs around the world. Behind every designer, filmmaker, athlete, or creator is an entire ecosystem of manufacturers, technicians, artisans, software developers, logistics providers, marketers, and entrepreneurs. Yet despite generating more than $2.3 trillion in annual revenue and employing over 200 million people, creative industries remain significantly underfinanced across many emerging markets. Since 2022, IFC - International Finance Corporation has committed nearly $1 billion to help unlock the potential of creative industries across emerging markets. The results show why investing in creativity is not only good for culture—it is good for business, jobs, and economic growth. Discover the impact behind the numbers. https://lnkd.in/euxk3knJ

Over the next decade, 1.2 billion young people in developing countries will enter the workforce. Creative industries are already among the largest employers of youth and women, yet they receive less than 1% of global financing in emerging markets. Since 2022, IFC has invested and enabled nearly $1 billion across fashion, film, sports, entertainment, immersive technology, and the creator economy—making it the largest development finance institution investor in the sector. Our new immersive story explores why creative industries are not just cultural assets—they are investable businesses and powerful engines of jobs and growth. 📖 Read the story: https://lnkd.in/e3s6Z-zR

Cities are powerful engines of economic growth. But without investment in infrastructure, their potential remains constrained. IFC's partnership with Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO is helping cities prepare infrastructure projects for private investment and develop commercially viable solutions in areas such as waste management, urban mobility, and energy. From the transformation of Belgrade's Vinča landfill into a modern waste-to-energy facility to projects across Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, the program is turning complex urban challenges into bankable investment opportunities. By combining technical expertise with private capital mobilization, this approach is enabling cities to improve services, strengthen resilience, and build the foundations for long-term growth, competitiveness, and job creation. Jobs don't come from a single project. They come from an ecosystem that enables businesses to invest, grow, and hire. That means reliable infrastructure, skilled workers, clear regulations, access to finance, and private investment working together. The World Bank Group's jobs agenda is built around these foundations. IFC helps translate these into opportunities by mobilizing private capital, supporting entrepreneurs, and helping businesses access the financing they need to expand operations and create jobs at scale. When women-owned SMEs have greater access to finance, they invest, hire, innovate, and contribute to stronger local economies. A new study from The World Bank Group's IFC brings together nearly a decade of data from client financial institutions, making a compelling business case for investing in women entrepreneurs. The findings challenge conventional assumptions about women borrowers and highlight the untapped potential of women-owned SMEs as drivers of growth and job creation. For financial institutions, expanding financing to women-owned businesses is not only about inclusion. It is an opportunity to grow portfolios, reach an underserved market, and support private sector development. Explore the evidence here: https://lnkd.in/e2EYXhw9

Many businesses already have the products, customers, and market opportunities they need to grow. What often holds them back are gaps in management, technology, skills, and access to networks. This IFC research highlights how targeted business upgrading programs can help address these challenges. From improving management practices and financial literacy to supporting innovation and technology adoption, these interventions help businesses operate more efficiently, become more resilient, and create jobs. The findings suggest that the greatest impact comes from approaches that are intensive, tailored, and aligned with a firm's stage of development. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eyusg-56
