On July 14, 2026, the European Commission adopted a Delegated Regulation introducing partial derogations from portable battery removability and replaceability requirements. For products including certain wearables, rechargeable electric toys, food-contact wireless thermometer probes, explosion-protected equipment, on-body medicine-delivery systems and roof-mounted telematics devices, portable batteries may be designed to be removable and replaceable by independent professionals rather than end users. The Commission also published an updated version of its non-binding guidelines, taking account of the adopted Delegated Regulation and adding clarifications and examples on scope, wet-environment appliances, wearables, safety and data integrity, compatible batteries, spare-part availability and software limitations. On July 17, 2026, California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) added three pharmaceutical substances—hydrochlorothiazide, voriconazole, and tacrolimus—to the state’s Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer. According to OEHHA, the chemicals were added through the Proposition 65 “Labor Code” listing mechanism. The basis for the action was outlined in a notice of intent published on May 8, 2026, which opened a public comment period through June 8, 2026. No comments were received during the consultation. The update expands California’s list of carcinogenic substances and forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to inform the public about potential cancer-related chemical exposures. The revised Proposition 65 chemical list is available through OEHHA. The listings became effective on July 17, 2026, under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. Businesses must provide clear and reasonable warnings beginning July 17, 2027.
