YouTube increases Premium price again, says 90-second unskippable ads are a bug

shit, this is one of the last subs I still maintain because it's good background material + YT music. I hate how news stories are like "it's the first price update since 1-2 years ago" like this should be fucking normalized. a 15% increase every couple of years for technology where delivery...

AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition crams 208MB of cache into a single chip

Does this also require a different motherboard for consumers to leverage though? At that point it feels more like next socket convo than adding confusion to the market. A lot of the x950 x3d complaints were on the half ccd though, so I am glad they are addressing at least that with an offering.

Newly purchased Vizio TVs now require Walmart accounts to use smart features

I also had my vizio die on me after... maybe 6 years or so? I cant say I necessarily expect a decade out of budget TVs in general now but stuff like this certainly compounds on advise to stay away. Having said that, I agree with most folks about dumb TVs being the way to go.

Don’t worry, Valve still plans to launch the Steam Machine “this year”

They could, however it means a final assembly step before packaging and risk of continued priced increases. They could do final assembly with SI partners vs more traditional console approaches, benefit is that you build for the selling SKUs.... but then you'll have to think pricing more like...

Don’t worry, Valve still plans to launch the Steam Machine “this year”

If they do plan on releasing this year they need to basically already be in volume production now assuming full packaging is done overseas. Given the lack of certainty here, holiday may be the optimistic target at best. I'm not counting my pennies though, especially with the geopolitical...

Under a Paramount-WBD merger, two struggling media giants would unite

This is why netflix investors like it. It's almost all free money and most people expect them to pick up the scraps in a few years when this inevitably tanks. Speaking of which, how do I short the combined company because it's going to be so absurdly unsustainably over-leveraged that the...

Block lays off 40% of workforce as it goes all-in on AI tools

They don't care about the talent pool argument. The idea is that all solutions in the workplace are effectively the same so you can just hire externally. They literally want to outsource the growth of individuals the same way they've been doing training for decades now, and just pick up people...

New Microsoft gaming chief has “no tolerance for bad AI”

When one interviews for a job, there are some qualifications that make them a good candidate for it. The question to me isn't "are you a gamer", its are you a good organizational leader for a brand of this magnitude - and what is the company looking for that person to achieve. I'm not sure we...

Trump FTC denies being “speech police” but says Apple News is too liberal

Its sickening seeing this continued "silencing conservatives" nonsense when all the largest media and social media sites are pushing rightwing propaganda nonstop. They are the anthesis of free speech. Absolutely tired of the deluge of harassment and lies from this administration.

Has Elon Musk given up on Mars?

This is.... a brilliant analogies, and absurdly something I could totally see a version this administration would attempt.

AI companies want you to stop chatting with bots and start managing them

While this isnt a way to get to AGI, sufficiently varied agents probably are more effective than wee may assume at first glance. The models may be similar, but if you have one agent who is focused on big picture while another on more minute areas, they can have some reasonable efficacy in...

Why a bump to $700 could be a “death sentence” for the Steam Machine

Thr analyst estimates there are wildly different, from $600 to over $1k. I am inclined to focus more on the higher end of that range, there isnt enough volume or economies of scale esp with gen1 to bring prices down. Unfortunately a $1k pc these days may well not even match ps5 pro performance...

AI companies want you to stop chatting with bots and start managing them

This agentic approach with inherent redundancies are functionally necessary to reduce the impact of hallucinations and get to any degree of complexity. But the finances just don't really work and barring a 20x computer capability in a few years these guys are going to run out of money long...

NASA finally acknowledges the elephant in the room with the SLS rocket

Is questionably functional, congress insanely keeps supporting it, it clearly siphons money from better uses, and leaks gas. Unpleasant yet poetically allegorical

Five months later, Nvidia’s $100 billion OpenAI investment plan has fizzled out

AMD just reported earnings and.... I don't think the $300 share price for those warrants is on the horizon anytime soon. My portfolio is going to hate it in the short run, but this bubble has to recalibrate to reality at some point. I'm not sure Open AI is going to make it to an IPO if the bad...

Netflix claims subscribers will get “more content for less” if it buys HBO Max

So would the CEO be okay being held liable with jail time when they do not have more value? Because the fact there is no consequence for every merger to go spew the same nonsense and it never turns out to be true is getting really old. Gosh I miss accountability. * considering the...

Senior staff departing OpenAI as firm prioritizes ChatGPT development

1600 Pennsylvania Ave apparently. Open AI seems to be in a sentiment freefall, and msft is getting pulled down with it. Oracle also got hammered. It'll be interesting to see what gets hit next, and by interesting I mean sobering on my portfolio but probably a net good for society.

Upset at reports that he’d given up, Trump now wants $1B from Harvard

The capitulation generally has been one of the most disheartening things in the past year. The ease of which people seem to allow for the ablation of any facade of principals or moral fortitude. And how can one try to instill the sense of expectation of "doing the right thing" in our youth when...

White House posts altered arrest photo to make it appear ICE critic was sobbing

Um.... the whole ICE memo saying they could violate the 4th amendment falls under this a heck of a lot more than anything those folks did protesting. One can only hope democracy manages to resurface in a way have some real accountability.

Reports of ad-supported Xbox game streams show Microsoft’s lack of imagination

Well liked is usually defined by the ability for a CEO to increase the stock price and grow the business. That can be a self-fufilling feedback loop, but Satya has been quite successfully at it, ditto for Cook and Apple. Long term innovation here comes from acquisitions unfortunately, and in...
