🚨 Imagine spending hours every day standing over a smoke-filled fire just to prepare a meal. That's still the reality for millions of cooks around the world. But in Tanzania, that's starting to change. At Kibasila Primary School, cooking now takes less than half the time. Daily energy costs have fallen by around 40%, leaving more of the school's budget for food instead of firewood. 🪵 No more deforestation for firewood. 💨 Cleaner kitchens with less harmful smoke. 👩🍳 Faster, healthier meals. We're proud to champion the clean cooking transition in schools together with the World Food Programme Africa and the Government of Tanzania, with support from UKAid - MECS programme and Forward7 | فورورد7. This is exactly the kind of progress we're scaling globally through the Platform for Clean Cooking in Schools. Together with our partners, we are combining ambition and planning with policy and finance to deliver real impact. Mbakey Ceesay runs a welding workshop in Jah Kunda, a village in the Upper River Region of The Gambia. For years it struggled to stay afloat. The machines ran on diesel generators and fuel was the biggest cost in the business. Then the village was connected to the national grid. Today, the workshop has grown into a local employer. Fifteen young people work there, including apprentices learning the trade in their own village instead of leaving to look for work. Muhammed Kandeh, one of the welders, says: "I can work better, earn better and take care of my family. And I want the same for them." What's one thing every hospital needs before a doctor can treat a patient? Reliable access to electricity. 🎉 These photos capture a huge milestone for our #PoweringHealthcare programme in Sierra Leone. The 43rd and final health facility is now equipped with solar energy and battery storage! This means that 18 hospitals and 25 community health centres across the country now have the backup power needed to deliver care safely and keep critical equipment running without interruption. Clean energy access is the backbone of essential health services, from maternity care and emergency response to vaccine storage, all while reducing reliance on diesel. The choices countries make today will shape their energy systems and economies for decades to come. That was the focus of our latest work with the Botswana Ministry of Minerals and Energy as the country advances on its energy and climate ambitions. Together, we explored future energy demand, investment priorities and different pathways for the energy transition, while looking at how power, transport, buildings, industry and clean cooking fit together in one connected energy system. Discussions also highlighted how green industrialisation and clean technology manufacturing can help diversify the economy, strengthen local industries and create skilled jobs, ensuring the energy transition delivers lasting benefits beyond the energy sector.

⚽ As the #FIFAWorldCup final captures the world's attention, here's another lineup worth looking at. If #SDG7 had a World Cup squad, who makes the team? The latest #TrackingSDG7 report shows that the remaining energy access gaps are becoming more concentrated. ⚡ 80% of the global electricity access gap is now concentrated in just 22 countries ⚡ Three quarters of the global clean cooking gap is now concentrated in 20 countries ⚡ Most of these countries are in Africa. Africa's energy future will be shaped by how quickly progress is made in a relatively small group of countries. Tanzania is already showing what's possible. Recently, we were back in Tanzania as part of our ongoing work with Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), Tanzania to support the country's long-term energy transition planning. Through a three-day workshop, government institutions explored how Tanzania's energy systems can meet future demand while accelerating the shift to clean energy. We then co-hosted a session with TAREA TZ and Tanzania Electric Mobility Association (TAEMA), bringing together more than 30 representatives from government, industry, financial institutions and development organizations to explore how more clean energy technologies could be designed, assembled and manufactured in Tanzania. How do you connect 300 million people to electricity? #Mission300 is built around country leadership. Each participating government develops a National Energy Compact: a roadmap for expanding energy access. Recently, with the African Development Bank Group Bank, we supported Kenya's delivery team through a workshop focused on implementing its compact under the Africa Energy Sector Technical Assistance Program (AESTAP).
