CEO The Hon. Lisa Singh joined CUTS Global Affairs and Rajasthan International Centre for a dialogue on 'Building an India-Australia Energy Security Corridor for Indo-Pacific Resilience’. Discussion explored the creation of an India-Australia Energy Security Corridor to enhance resilience in critical minerals, clean energy and maritime logistics, while examining opportunities for deeper collaboration with key Indo-Pacific partners such as Japan and Singapore. Thank you to Pradeep Mehta, CUTS Secretary General, for his contribution to driving deeper partnerships between Australia and India, and to CUTS Executive Director, Bipul Chattopadhyay, for moderating the discussion.

The Institute was pleased to convene the first Steering Committee meeting for ‘Khel Connect: Australia-India Sports Education and Innovation Pathways’, a landmark initiative designed to strengthen Australia India partnerships in sport education. Khel Connect will develop practical pathways for collaboration in sports education and innovation, supporting India's sporting ambitions and strengthening ties between our two countries. Congratulations to the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences on their successful event to celebrate and reflect on the University of Melbourne’s Health Partnerships in India this week at Melbourne Global Centre – Delhi. The evening reflected on the number of individuals and organisations whose vision, generosity, expertise and friendship have made these partnerships possible, including AII Academic Fellow Nathan Grills who has been integral to the development of partnerships between the Faculty and India. CEO The Hon. Lisa Singh moderated a panel discussion reflecting on these decades of collaboration alongside partners from government, NGOS and academia.  The Institute was pleased to support the faculty, including through the launch of a research report highlighting the Faculty's longstanding engagement with India, recognising the partners who have advanced health research, education and care while shaping a shared vision for the future of healthcare across both countries. Thanks to CUTS Global Affairs and Rajasthan International Centre for hosting this seminar on 🇦🇺🇮🇳 building energy supply chain resilience tonight in Jaipur, and inviting me to give the opening keynote, and a special thanks to Pradeep Mehta, the secretary-general of CUTS for your leadership and contribution to driving a deeper partnship between our two countries.

The Institute convened the inaugural Advisory Committee for UTTHAN Pathways: Building Regional Research Partnerships, a new project delivered in collaboration with the Regional Universities Network (RUN), Australia, Gulbali Institute (Charles Sturt University), and Section Infin-8 Foundation (SI-8) - an execution partner for the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. Regional Universities in Australia and India share many of the same opportunities and challenges. Yet despite strong alignment, there has been no dedicated pathway to support sustained engagement between these institutions.  UTTHAN Pathways will address this gap for the first time through three interconnected initiatives that will strengthen bilateral research partnerships, foster regional innovation, and build long-term opportunities for collaboration. The project aligns with Mission UTTHAN, India's national agenda to strengthen research and innovation capacity beyond Tier 1 cities. The Institute is grateful for the expertise and strategic insight of the Advisory Committee as we begin this important work. The Australia India Institute is excited to announce that our Senior Fellow, Kim Heriot-Darragh, has been awarded a Centre for Australia-India Relations Maitri Fellowship. As part of the Fellowship, Kim will be based at the Council for Strategic and Defense Research in New Delhi, where he will undertake his project, "Australia and India's Leadership in Shaping Rules and Norms in the Indian Ocean.” The Maitri Program aims to deepen the Australia–India relationship by supporting research, cultural and economic collaboration. We are delighted that Kim has been selected as an outgoing Australian Fellow, reflecting the growing importance of two-way research partnerships between Australia and India. During his fellowship at CSDR, Kim will examine how Australia and India can work together to strengthen regional governance and shape the rules and norms that underpin a stable, secure and rules-based Indian Ocean.
