The first stage of the plan, Respond, is now complete. The work undertaken has strengthened ADA’s operating model, systems and internal capability, while progressing initiatives across advocacy, engagement, CPD, career support and your digital experience. Dentistry has been left out of an expanded Commonwealth Prac Payment program. In response to the Albanese Government's decision to add ten more health disciplines to the program from 1 July 2027, the ADA has said dental students must not be left out of a program which is committed to building a future healthcare workforce. ADA Federal President Dr Chris Sanzaro says dental students undertake lengthy, compulsory clinical placements as part of every accredited degree, facing the same cost of living pressures, travel and equipment costs, and reduced capacity for paid work as students in the disciplines now being supported. The ADA is encouraging the Government to include dentistry in the next phase of the Commonwealth Prac Payment scheme and looks forward to continuing to work with them on behalf of dental students and the broader profession. The Australian Dental Journal (ADJ), the official journal of the ADA, has risen in global rankings once again. Available to members as part of an impressive suite of CPD resources, the ADJ has moved from a Q2 position (the top 50% of journals internationally) to Q1, representing the top 25% of journals. This metric measures the journal’s influence and significance and reflects the hard work and diligence that go into its production, as well as the world-class quality of the Australian researchers who contribute their work. Its Impact Factor- a measure of how often articles are cited within a given period - also saw an impressive rise to 3.3, a sizeable increase from 2.4 in 2024. To provide context, the Impact Factor measures the frequency with which the average article in a journal has been cited in a particular year or period. ADA members enjoy complimentary access to the ADJ, alongside the CPD Portal, Dental Files podcast (available through Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and the CPD Portal), and the National Digital Library, as part of the extensive professional development resources available through the Association.
