⚡ Can Europe speed up #electrification faster without increasing energy costs? 📗 That's one of the key questions facing the upcoming EU #ElectrificationActionPlan (EAP), tackled in the Policy and Market Updates section of the #H2EQuarterly. As outlined by the European Commission, electrification is essential for #decarbonisation, #energysecurity and industrial growth. But at a time when European industry is under increasing pressure from global competition and high energy prices, affordability must remain a priority. 💡 The real challenge, beyond deploying more #renewables and expanding infrastructure, is ensuring the energy system uses those assets as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. 💧 This is where #hydrogen comes into play: #Electrolysers can provide #flexibility to the power system by absorbing excess renewable electricity, reducing congestion and helping optimise the use of existing networks. This way, they can contribute to lowering costs while producing the #cleanmolecules needed by hard-to-abate sectors. 📖 Read the full article to explore the role of flexibility in the EAP, and how hydrogen can contribute 👉 https://lnkd.in/eV9fy39S Read more on the topic here 👇 ➡️ #HE report on hydrogen as a ready-made solution for Europe’s energy flexibility needs: https://lnkd.in/emRCGKap ➡️ #HE briefing on electricity network tariffs: https://lnkd.in/eu4Y8vqb #HydrogenNow

The European Commission has correctly identified Europe's #fertiliser vulnerabilities, but not how to properly address them. 📗 In the Policy and Market Updates section of our latest #H2EQuarterly, we take a look at how the recent market disruptions have again highlighted a vulnerability that often goes unnoticed: Europe's dependence on imported fertilisers and fertiliser feedstocks. 🪴 The Commission's #FertiliserActionPlan is on the right track, placing strategic autonomy, #securityofsupply and #decarbonisation at the centre of the discussion. It also recognises the role that #lowcarbon fertilisers, #hydrogen and ammonia can play in reducing both emissions and import dependencies. But this is only the first step. Now, we need to create a competitive market for low-carbon fertilisers, which will require: ➡️ Stronger #demandsignals, ➡️ Robust #certification frameworks ➡️ Targeted support mechanisms, like the #EuropeanHydrogenBank and the #IndustrialDecarbonisationBank Read the full article in our #H2EQuarterly to get our insights on the next steps for the fertilisers sector 👉 https://lnkd.in/eV9fy39S For more information, you can also find 👇 📄 #HE position paper on green lead markets: https://lnkd.in/eTthdrg7 📄 European Commission’s Fertilisers Action Plan: https://lnkd.in/e6eRHM6e #HydrogenNow

The Board of #H2Europe today elected Miguel Ángel López Borrego, CEO of thyssenkrupp, to be the new Chair of the association. Taking office at a pivotal moment for Europe's clean industrial transformation, López will lead the Board as the association continues to champion #hydrogen as a cornerstone of Europe's #competitiveness, #energyresilience and #decarbonisation agenda. López, whose mandates will last until June 2029, succeeds Air Liquide’s Sebastian Boden. Boden’s leadership, commitment and service have made a lasting contribution to Hydrogen Europe, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks for his dedication and support, particularly throughout the association’s ongoing transformation process. The appointment comes as Europe enters a decisive phase in building a #hydrogeneconomy that supports industrial decarbonisation, strengthens #energysecurity and drives #sustainable economic growth. As Europe moves from ambition to implementation, the sector needs stable and predictable policy frameworks to unlock investment, strengthen domestic manufacturing, accelerate infrastructure deployment and stimulate demand in hard-to-abate industries. Hydrogen Europe will continue serving as the united voice of the European hydrogen industry, bringing together businesses, national associations and regional stakeholders to help make hydrogen a cornerstone of Europe's industrial future. 📱 Europe's #digital ambitions are uncovering a new energy challenge. 📗 In the Policy and Market Updates section of the #H2EQuarterly, we explore how the rapid growth of #AI, the increasing #datacentre demand, and what it all means for European #resilience. 🛜 With the European Commission’s proposed Cloud and AI Development Act highlighting the need for reliable, scalable, and #lowcarbon infrastructure, the demand for resilient energy solutions is rapidly increasing. Modern AI workloads can cause significant fluctuations in #electricity demand within milliseconds, creating new challenges for #gridstability and backup power systems. 💧 During a demonstration by INNIO Group, we saw how a 3 MW engine operating on 100% #hydrogen can successfully respond to these dynamic load profiles while delivering the stability data centre operators are looking for. As Europe works to strengthen both its digital #competitiveness and energy resilience, solutions that bridge these two priorities will play an increasingly important role in supporting sustainable growth. 🛡️ The EU Emission Trading System (#ETS) has spent the past two decades driving emissions reductions, but the upcoming revision raises a broader question: can it also strengthen Europe's industrial #resilience? In the current landscape of energy price volatility, geopolitical tensions and increasing global competition, policymakers need to find a balance between maintaining #climate ambition while accelerating European industrial #competitiveness. 📗 In our Policy and Market Updates section of the #H2EQuarterly, we explore the debate around free allowances and how #supportmechanisms can incentivise real investments in #decarbonisation. 🏆 We also propose the concept of convertible allowances, ensuring that support rewards action, not intention, by linking it to verified investments and offtake commitments. As Europe looks to build a more resilient industrial economy, the ETS can not only support reaching climate goals but also as a catalyst for innovation and investment. Read the full article for more of our insight on #ETS here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eV9fy39S For more info 👇 ➡️ #HE position paper on ETS revision: https://lnkd.in/e9KJHuda ➡️ Joint statement for a strong and stable ETS: https://lnkd.in/d7W_X9P7 #HydrogenNow

Europe’s next #MFF must avoid creating two disconnected worlds: one for research and one for deployment. #FP10 and the #EUCompetitivenessFund should work together as one innovation-to-scale continuum, helping strategic technologies move from research excellence to industrial leadership. This is why European Partnerships and Joint Undertakings matter: they can provide the structured bridge between research, industrial needs, technology maturation and scale-up. The EU is now shaping the next funding cycle, including through a simplified partnership portfolio. #H2Europe supports simplification, but simplification must generate stronger synergies, not dilution. For this reason, we have submitted our response to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on future European Partnerships and Joint Undertakings ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eq4ubjsi Our message is clear: #hydrogen is a perfect test case and must retain a visible, structured and ambitious place in the future EU partnerships portfolio for Europe’s #competitiveness, #decarbonisation and strategic #resilience. Successive hydrogen Joint Undertakings have enabled an important progression: from research, to demonstration, to ecosystem building. As the sector enters the industrialisation phase, the next challenge is no longer only to develop better technologies, but to make the whole value chain more: 🔬 technically competitive 🏭 manufacturable at scale 🧩 integrated across the energy system 🛡️ de-risked and deployment-ready What's next? A public consultation will be the next key step, with a deadline in October. Last but not least, a warm thank all those who contributed and helped carry this message across Europe as #cleanhydrogen was the most supported JU in the call for evidence results.
