𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 7 “𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬” 𝐇𝐚𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 On 16 July 2026, the Belgian Chamber of Representatives unanimously approved Book 7 of the new Belgian Civil Code (“Special Contracts”). This reform is expected to have a significant impact on a broad range of contractual relationships and on the day-to-day operations of businesses.   The Commercial & Litigation and Real Estate & Regulatory teams have been closely monitoring these developments for some time. Drawing on their combined expertise and extensive experience, they assist clients in assessing the impact of Book 7 on their existing contractual practices.   Book 7 is expected to enter into force one year after its publication in the Belgian Official Gazette. We are proud to have supported the lenders of GIGA Storage with respect to the development of project "Green Turtle", set to become the largest battery energy storage project ever developed in Belgium 🔋   Located in Dilsen-Stokkem, project Green Turtle will have a storage capacity of 2.8 GWh and an output of 700 MW, making it one of the largest battery projects in Europe. The project represents a major milestone in the energy transition, helping to store excess renewable energy, reduce grid congestion and support a more resilient and sustainable electricity system⚡   Construction is scheduled to start after the summer, with commissioning planned by the end of 2028. Once operational, the facility will be capable of storing enough electricity to cover the daily consumption of nearly 300,000 households.   Lydian advised - together with Norton Rose Fulbright Amsterdam - on local energy, environmental and real estate aspects of this landmark development, bringing together expertise from across our multidisciplinary team.
