📢 The Open Data Challenge for Public Transportation 2026 is now...open! Hosted by the Association for Open Data of Public Transportation (ODPT) in collaboration with Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, this contest invites developers around the world to build applications using open data covering railways, buses, demand-responsive transport, aviation, ferries and bike-sharing across Japan. 👋 Everyone in the room during my TransitData presentation had used GTFS in the past for their work. 👀 But many had never heard of the non-profit that stewards it, MobilityData. When you produce GTFS data, you want to know it'll reach riders. Before now, that meant testing it yourself, checking apps manually, or chasing down consuming applications one by one. That gap needed to close. So MobilityData closed it by creating the GTFS Features Tracker. The GTFS Features Tracker is the result of direct outreach to consuming applications who agreed to openly share what they support and what they don't. Every entry was voluntarily submitted and all of it is free. It lives on the MobilityDatabase and on GTFS.org, so you can check feature support while you're building, not after.
