As Bloomberg shows below, the Canadian market continues to deliver standout performance. Canada remains an overachiever in the stock market this year, with the S&P/TSX Composite outperforming the S&P 500 for a second year in a row. But the performance of our equity benchmark is only part of the picture. The growth we have seen across the market at the Montréal Exchange points to a broader trend: Canada is sustaining momentum among international investors, and importantly, continues to cement its position as a premier global destination to manage risk. Throughout the last decade at the Exchange, we have seen Canada go from strength to strength with regard to trading volumes, open interest, and deepening liquidity. This fantastic piece from Geoffrey Morgan and Stephanie Hughes highlights just how strong the Canadian market has been and continues to be.

In the first half of 2026, amidst a complex macro backdrop, our issuers demonstrated remarkable resilience—delivering certainty in uncertain times and helping Canada's public markets cross a historic threshold. Here is a look at the key trends and milestones shaping our ecosystem: ▪️Market Capitalization Passes $7 Trillion: We reached a significant milestone, reflecting steady valuation growth across major sectors and underlining the deep liquidity concentrated in the Canadian public markets. ▪️$9 Billion in Mining Capital Raised: In the first six months of the year, mining issuers raised $9 billion across 750 financings. This volume of activity highlights strong, sustained investor appetite for both precious and critical transition metals, reaffirming our position as the global leader in resource capital formation. ▪️14 Graduations from TSXV to TSX: We are significantly ahead of pace this year. Having surpassed last year's total of 10 graduations in just six months, it is clear that the world's leading two-tier market system continues to be a critical financing pathway for Canada’s fastest-growing companies. ▪️A Resurgent IPO Market: After a quiet period, IPOs are officially back. We welcomed four new listings in the first half of the year, driving a surge in IPO capital raised. This includes Apotex Inc. (TSX:APTX)—the largest Life Sciences offering in our history. As a Toronto Stock Exchange-only listing that continues to perform exceptionally well, Apotex proves that the Canadian market can seamlessly execute billion-dollar IPOs. We also saw major momentum in the mining sector with the Lumina Metals (TSX:LMCU) listing, underscoring Canada’s enduring ability to attract substantial, international capital. Congratulations to all of our issuers and market participants whose vision and hard work achieved these incredible milestones. You can dive deeper into the data and trends driving these records in our latest TSX/TSXV MiG report: https://lnkd.in/ep-gqndS

  • YAHOO! 🤠 #TSX and #TSXV were in Calgary during Stampede to open the market alongside the Calgary Public Library Foundation! ⚡️ TLDR: Through the support of its donors, Calgary Public Library Foundation enables the Calgary Public Library and all of its members to dream, to transform, and to lead in access, connection, and literacy. 📖✨ Funds raised through the 2026 TMX Stampede Reception will support LitCon, Calgary Public Library's city-wide youth literary arts festival that inspires creativity and fosters a lifelong love of reading, storytelling, and self-expression among young people. 🫶 Thank you to Tracy Johnson, CEO, Calgary Public Library Foundation, Andy Creech, President of TSX Venture Exchange, and our clients for bringing the energy to the event and we can't wait to be back next year! #CalgaryStampede

True reconciliation in Canada demands a fundamental commitment to fostering Indigenous economic participation. For business leaders, this requires moving beyond intent to tangible, sustained action—investing the patience, trust, and capital needed to build equitable partnerships that will last for generations. I recently sat down with Mark Magnacca and Rob Brant on the "Drumbeats" podcast to discuss how to navigate this critical journey. Reflecting on TMX Group’s own five-year journey to building trust with Indigenous communities, we explored the path forward for Canada’s capital markets ecosystem. Today, there are two Indigenous-led companies listed on Toronto Stock Exchange/TSX Venture Exchange. If we successfully align Indigenous participation with the broader Canadian economy, that number could grow to upwards of 200. By leveraging the right vehicles—from debt programs and loan guarantees to public equity—we can accelerate the capital deployment necessary to finance transformative projects and build a truly inclusive economy. A sincere thank you to Mark and Rob for facilitating such a meaningful conversation, and to the Hon. Lisa Raitt for her invaluable insights on the evolving investment landscape. Please watch our full discussion at the link below.

Canada has two Indigenous-led companies listed on its public exchanges. John McKenzie CEO of TMX Group, the operator of the Toronto Stock Exchange, says proportional economic representation would require 150 to 200. That gap is the investment thesis. In this episode of Drumbeats, recorded in the City of London during the Canadian Indigenous Investment Summit 2026, McKenzie and the Hon. Lisa Raitt, Vice Chair at CIBC Capital Markets, explain what the capital markets infrastructure now looks like. Federal loan guarantees are in place. The First Nations Finance Authority debt programme is operational. The first Indigenous-led equity vehicles are trading on exchange. TMX Group's reconciliation-linked index shows companies committed to Indigenous partnerships have outperformed the broader market consistently over 20 years. The building blocks exist. The next phase is scale. Raitt: the projects Indigenous communities are presenting to institutional investors are resource, energy, and infrastructure transactions evaluated on the same commercial terms as any other deal in the country. What would shift your allocation framework: the track record data, the policy infrastructure, or the deal pipeline? Full episode in the comments!
