Info
Founded in 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the umbrella organisation of its members, currently 211 national football associations. Its main objectives, enshrined in its statutes, are to develop football around the world, to stage international competitions and to protect the integrity of football (against match manipulation, doping etc.). FIFA is composed of a number of political bodies (such as the FIFA Congress and the FIFA Council) and the administration. The highest political position is the FIFA President, elected every four years by FIFA’s member associations. The FIFA administration, with more than 800 people from over 60 nations, is based in Zurich. It is run by the Secretary General (CEO). FIFA stages FIFA World Cups™ in various forms such as youth, men’s and women’s, futsal, beach soccer or club competitions. The men’s FIFA World Cup™ is not only the most popular single sporting event in the world but also the financial backbone for FIFA and its efforts to develop football worldwide. The financial success of the FIFA World Cup™ allows FIFA to run a wide range of football development programmes and to provide funds, infrastructure and know-how to its member associations through the FIFA Forward Development Programme. Inside the unprecedented operation behind the biggest sporting event in history 🏟️ The FIFA World Cup 2026™ thrilled the world with unforgettable football, record attendances and historic moments on the pitch. Yet behind every goal, celebration and matchday experience was an operational undertaking unlike anything previously attempted in sport. Across 39 days, the FIFA World Cup 2026 stretched across three countries, 16 Host Cities, 48 Team Base Camps and 645 official sites. Nearly 300,000 accredited personnel supported tournament operations as 1,248 players competed in front of a cumulative stadium attendance of more than 6.8 million fans. What supporters experienced as a seamless celebration of football was underpinned by one of the most extensive logistical and operational mobilisations ever assembled. From the movement of teams and equipment across a continent to the preparation of world-class pitches, fan operations, security, accreditation, transport, media and broadcast services, virtually every aspect of the tournament was delivered on a scale never before seen at a FIFA World Cup™. The letter that connected disabled family with Cristiano Ronaldo: 'I couldn't let them down' ✉️❤️ Alina Hoberg, FIFA's Human Rights and Sustainability Coordinator, was carrying out her usual ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) checks during a Colombia v Portugal match in Miami, Florida at the FIFA World Cup 2026™, when she moved through the accessible seating sections to ask fans whether they needed mobility assistance. It was there that she met a family of four, including two young brothers, Michael and Vladimir, who live with muscular dystrophy, and whose day at the stadium was about to take an unexpected turn. “They approached me and they told me that they had the best time of their lives because this was the first match that they saw [Cristiano] Ronaldo play in live,” Ms Hoberg recalled. “And so even in the conversation with them, I thought they were special. The boys were smiling. They were happy that they were there. They honestly had the best time of their lives, and they told me. And so when they gave me the letter, I knew I had to do something about it, and I couldn't let them down.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gVHq7CKa

FIFA Integrity Task Force identifies no suspicious betting activity during FIFA World Cup 2026 The FIFA Integrity Task Force, established to safeguard all FIFA competitions against match manipulation‑related threats, has successfully concluded its FIFA World Cup 2026™ operations after monitoring betting markets and on-field activity in real time across all 104 matches. Based on the information collected and analysed throughout the competition, the Task Force identified no suspicious betting activity or indications of match manipulation in connection with any fixture. During the tournament, FIFA centralised the collection of betting‑monitoring reports and other relevant data and information provided by Task Force members, as well as information received through available reporting mechanisms. This information was subsequently analysed and shared among Task Force members in line with operational procedures. “The FIFA Integrity Task Force provided a strong framework during the FIFA World Cup 2026 for sharing intelligence, assessing potential concerns and coordinating a timely response,” said Liam Rich, FIFA’s Senior Integrity Manager. We thank all Task Force members for their expertise and commitment during the competition and we look forward to building on this collaboration at future FIFA tournaments.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dKmWGWJc
