🔍 Key figures on innovation promotion The first half of 2026 once again reflects the dynamic Swiss entrepreneurial ecosystem. Over 300 applications for national innovation projects with implementation partners have been submitted, with 174 already approved. The Innovation cheque offer continues to establish itself as an effective gateway to innovation, with more than 400 projects supported. Start-ups before market entry have also responded positively, with more than 100 applications submitted for start-up innovation projects.🤝 💡Personalised support also remains a key to success. Almost 600 companies have benefited from our mentors’ support to evaluate their innovation business idea’s potential. In terms of coaching, 279 vouchers were delivered to start-ups to get advices tailored to their specific development aspects between our three coaching programmes. 🦷 Could a mini-robot one day prepare a tooth for a dental crown? This is the ambition behind MIR, the Miniature Intraoral Robot: a prototype developed by Swiss researchers to automate part of the tooth preparation process before a crown is placed. With MIR, Swiss researchers are exploring how digital planning, and automated tooth preparation could be brought together to make reconstructive dentistry more seamless, reproducible and efficient. Supported by Innosuisse, the innovation project brings together the industry partner Camlog, University of Basel and University of Zurich, with contributions from Université de Berne. 🥇Switzerland remains Europe’s innovation leader in 2026 According to the new European Innovation Scoreboard, Switzerland retains first place in the broader European ranking, with an innovation performance equivalent to 141.3% of the EU average. Its main strengths include: 🔬 World-class scientific research 🌍 Strong international attractiveness for talent 🤝 Close collaboration between universities and businesses 📈 High productivity 💻 Significant progress in digitalisation The results also point to areas where continued effort matters, particularly in translating knowledge into market impact and helping innovation scale across the economy. Being number one is an achievement. Staying there requires continuous reinvention and sustained collaboration between research institutions, companies, start-ups, public partners and innovation support organisations. 🍵 Can tea be decaffeinated without compromising its quality? The solution developed by Infré SA is water-based. An infusion made from the tea itself is used in the process, while activated carbon captures the caffeine. This innovation enables caffeine to be removed from tea without the use of synthetic solvents, while preserving the delicate compounds that give it its distinctive aroma and flavour. The real challenge was then to make this approach stable, reproducible and suitable for industrial-scale production, without compromising the tea’s sensory quality. Supported by Innosuisse, two national innovation projects carried out in collaboration with ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften brought together research and industry together to transform a promising concept into a practical application.
