Three time critical steps for a broad patient access : 1) drug development-2) regulatory approval- 3) reimbursement. How does these timelines compare between countries looking at more than 500 new drugs ?

Thank you to CASSS for the opportunity to serve on the Scientific Committee of the CASSS – Sharing Science Solutions CMC Strategy Forum North America and being able to participate in the productive pre-conference regulators workshop as well as host an exciting session “From Development to Global Implementation” with discussions in the space between Analytical Platforms, Digital Innovation approaches and Regulatory Innovation. My take aways are that is it valuable to further foster exchange between industry and regulators to create understanding, build knowledge, but also specifically look for targeted feedback and exchange in order to improve harmonization and innovate reliance approaches. Knowledge building and retention in the fields of data science and modeling can help to increase development speed and cost, and will require to include regulatory, industry and scientific aspects in order to make innovation successful and sustainable. Thank you to CASSS, speakers and the organizing committee for the fruitful talks and discussions and special thanks to Health Canada for hosting the event in Ottawa!

Thank you to the The British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Zimmer Biomet EMEA for hosting an insightful discussion on the future of medical device regulation in Switzerland and the UK. It was a pleasure to join Robert Reid and Roman Iselin on the panel, moderated by Céline Faeh, and to continue the conversation initiated by Damian Müller and Edith Luginbühl. One message stood out: effective regulation is built on trust, and trust requires continuous dialogue between policymakers, regulators, industry, and healthcare stakeholders. From an authority perspective, regulatory reliance does not reduce responsibility—it sharpens it. While trusted international assessments can help avoid unnecessary duplication, national authorities remain accountable for ensuring patient safety and maintaining confidence in the system. This is why communication is key. The ongoing exchange with stakeholders, including Swiss Medtech and Schweizerischer Verband der Diagnostikindustrie (SVDI), helps us develop solutions that are both robust and workable in practice. The goal is clear: a regulatory framework that protects patients while strengthening supply resilience and enabling timely access to innovation.

Welche Rolle spielen mögliche Verzerrungen in Studien?

💡Swissmedic at #ISBT2026 in Kuala Lumpur At this year’s International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Congress, Julia Engels represented Swissmedic with insights from Swiss #haemovigilance data on TRALI risk in platelet concentrates covering the years 2002–2024. Her contribution underlined the importance of continuous haemovigilance in identifying transfusion-related risks and supporting patient safety. 🙏We are grateful for the opportunity to share this work and to exchange with colleagues from around the world. Many thanks to the ISBT organisers for a well-organised and inspiring congress.

🌐 Webinar for Health Canada | Santé Canada on Swissmedic’s reliance approach Recently, Swissmedic experts Ulla Grauschopf, Simon Dalla Torre and Arno Nolting had the opportunity to share Swissmedic’s practical experience with reliance approaches in an online Q&A session with colleagues from Health Canada. More than 400 participants joined the webinar and contributed to a highly engaged discussion. 💬 The exchange focused on the use of foreign information in regulatory decision-making and highlighted the value of regular dialogue between regulatory authorities on topics of mutual interest. Swissmedic thanks Health Canada for the invitation, the excellent organisation, and the constructive discussion. Special thanks to Fannie St-Gelais, Félix Jules, PhD and Joanne McBane for their support and moderation. We look forward to continuing this valuable exchange. 🤝
