⚡ 500 kV submarine cable. On-site AC withstand voltage test. Completed. On June 12, 2026, Sieyuan Electric's HV AC Resonant Test System was applied in the 500 kV submarine cable AC withstand voltage test for the Hainan Cross-Sea Interconnection project — an extra-high-voltage, long-distance cross-sea transmission link. 🔧 Engineered to solve the toughest challenges in EHV cable testing: • Limited on-site power supply capacity • High losses and excessive temperature rise in test reactors • Insufficient reliability of variable-frequency power sources The system currently provides AC withstand voltage testing for 500 kV cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables up to 100 km in length — supporting safe, economical and reliable testing of long-distance submarine and land cables for power grid and offshore wind projects. 🌍 Proven at scale: • More than 2,000 systems delivered to customers worldwide • Full voltage range from 10 kV to 1,000 kV • Serving utilities, renewable energy projects and industrial clients across numerous countries and regions 🌊 Enabling the offshore energy transition As the global offshore wind industry moves toward deeper waters, higher voltages and larger capacities, demand for high-power, high-reliability test equipment continues to grow. Our power system cheif engineer Lei Huang shares how he leverage #Codex in large-scale peak load analysis.
A few days ago, I shared my experience of using Codex with a large power system peak-load case. Over the past 2 weeks, I’ve been rebuilding the same case in PSS®E. So far, the work has accumulated roughly 170 hours of AI execution, involving billions of tokens. The model brings together UHV transmission, AC and DC networks, renewable generation, offshore wind, synchronous condensers, STATCOMs, HVDC links, transformers, and thousands of interconnected network elements. More importantly, it provides a platform for studying power system behaviour under different operating conditions rather than focusing on individual devices. Rebuilding a case of this size is far more than converting data between software platforms. Simply achieving convergence is not enough. The acceptance criteria also include convergence performance, voltage limits, consistency between reactive power models and the actual network configuration, appropriate renewable modelling, and, ultimately, whether the model still represents a physically credible operating point. One lesson from this work is that a problem of this scale cannot simply be assigned to AI as a single objective. It has to be decomposed into many smaller tasks, each requiring human validation before moving forward. Engineers are still responsible for defining the next objective, deciding where to investigate, and accepting or rejecting the result. In practice, I often leave Codex running while I go to sleep. So far, I haven’t had a single case where I woke up and found that a difficult convergence problem had been solved on its own. Instead, it usually reaches a point where it gets blocked and waits for me. Codex’s strengths are obvious. It processes massive datasets, generates scripts, checks consistency and automates repetitive work extremely well. I was also impressed by how quickly it learned the implementation differences between different rms tools simply by reading documentation. Its limitation is equally clear. When convergence is influenced by HVDC links, large-scale renewable integration or accumulated modelling practices, expert guidance is still essential. Without it, AI can spend a great deal of effort exploring technically reasonable but ultimately unproductive directions even after reading hundreds of software manuals, technical books and standards. To me, this is where AI creates the greatest value: AI accelerates execution, while engineers define the objectives, break complex problems into manageable steps, validate the results, and make the final decisions. The pf model is only the first milestone. The next step is building the corresponding DYR and SEQ models and which I think will be much more challenging.

Milestone: Sieyuan Commissions State Grid Hunan's First Grid-forming STATCOM Project Recently, Sieyuan's GFM (grid-forming) STATCOM has successfully passed the site equivalent short-circuit test and entered trial operation at State Grid Hunan's 500 kV Shuicheng Substation. The equipment is rated at 35 kV/83 Mvar capacity and features a 3 times short-term overload capacity reaching 250 Mvar for 10 seconds, addressing both the critical demand for dynamic reactive power support in Hunan's load centers and the stability for local grid operability. The project key features include: ✅ Voltage source characteristic, “zero-latency” response, 3 p.u. Overload capacity ✅Reliability design of control & protection system benchmarking VSC-HVDC ✅Optical sampling enables enhanced electromagnetic immunity and reliability During the site equivalent short-circuit test, the GFM STATCOM injected a maximum output line current up to 4408 Amps (3.22 p.u.), exceeding 3 times the rated current, which demonstrated the equipment's exceptional performance.
