Dr. Chijioke A.C. Okoye is a distinguished Lecturer in the Department of History at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State. With a strong academic background in Political Science, International Relations and Diplomatic Studies, Dr. Chijioke has cultivated a rich expertise in International Relations, International Economic Relations, War and Peace Studies, Security Studies, Terrorism Studies, and Entrepreneurship.

The Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) was launched to address the contine... more The Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) was launched to address the continent's critical infrastructure deficits and to foster economic integration and trade. This study evaluates the impact of PIDA on intra-African trade growth between 2013 and 2023. Drawing from qualitative data, project reports, and trade analyses, the research finds that while PIDA has made substantial contributions to regional infrastructure, the influence on trade varies across regions and sectors. The study adopts the Theory of Regional Integration and the Infrastructure-Led Growth Theory to frame its analysis. It hypothesizes that the implementation of PIDA infrastructure projects has significantly contributed to increased intra-African trade volumes by improving connectivity and reducing trade costs. Methodologically, the research utilizes a qualitative approach, incorporating document analysis, expert interviews, and case studies to explore the relationship between infrastructure development and trade outcomes. The study highlights areas of progress, ongoing challenges, and offers recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of infrastructure investments.

In-Service Teachers' Knowledge of Data Literacy and Civic Engagement in the Digital Age: Implications for Educational Practice and Environmental Awareness

This study investigated in-service secondary school teachers' knowledge and practices regarding d... more This study investigated in-service secondary school teachers' knowledge and practices regarding data literacy and civic engagement in the digital age, with emphasis on their implications for educational practice and environmental awareness. Grounded in Digital Citizenship Theory and Constructivist Learning Theory, the study employed a descriptive survey research design to capture teachers' current knowledge, attitudes, and classroom applications without manipulation of variables. The population consisted of 1,746 in-service teachers across public secondary schools in the Nsukka Education Zone, Enugu State, Nigeria. Using Taro Yamane's formula and a multistage sampling technique, a total of 326 teachers were selected to participate in the study. Data were collected using a structured instrument titled In-Service Teachers' Knowledge of Data Literacy and Civic Engagement Questionnaire (ITKDLCEQ), adapted from established tools on data literacy, digital citizenship, and civic responsibility. The instrument was validated by experts, followed by pilot testing and the reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha yielded a coefficient of 0.81, indicating good internal consistency. Findings revealed that while teachers demonstrated moderate knowledge of data literacy and civic engagement, their classroom practices reflected limited integration of these competencies. Challenges such as insufficient digital resources, lack of training, and curriculum constraints were identified as key barriers. The results underscore the urgent need for targeted professional development, improved infrastructural support, and curriculum reforms that incorporate digital citizenship, environmental responsibility, and data-informed instructional strategies. Ultimately, the study highlights the importance of equipping educators with the competencies necessary to foster environmentally conscious and civically engaged learners in a digitally connected society.

This paper examined the issue of terrorism in contemporary Nigeria society paying particular atte... more This paper examined the issue of terrorism in contemporary Nigeria society paying particular attention to the case of Boko-Haram. Boko-Haram is a form of well-known terrorist group that has caused havoc and displaced many citizens; particularly in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria. The paper utilized secondary data and was anchored on frustration-aggression theory. Amongst other factors, the paper argues that it is evident that the Boko-Haram sect exploits widespread youth unemployment, and a high prevalence of illiteracy in Nigeria to perpetrate their terrorist acts. The reasons ranged from the frustrations of the unemployed youths and some people who dropped out of school. The paper posits that unless something is done to control it, a better, safer and more prosperous society emerging in Nigeria will remain elusive. Thus, the study recommends that there is need to review and restructure current governmental programmes to create sustainable jobs and encourage economic empowerment since current governmental programmes have not met the employment need of the society. Also, present laws and practices guiding education system in Nigeria should be reviewed in a way that literacy level in Nigeria can be improved. In particular, there is need to explore the extant laws and ascertain the extent to which they are being enforced with a view to establishing their efficacy.
