🔋🛡️ Deep discharge means more than just a loss of range. It is also a safety and validation issue. Low-voltage conditions can alter cell chemistry irreversibly, and copper dendrites or internal short circuits may occur weeks later. Annex 9H of UN ECE R100 confirms that the deep discharge protection function prevents the REESS from reaching impermissibly low voltages. Key test parameters: • Test object: complete vehicle or REESS • State of charge (SOC) at the start at the lower end of the normal operating range • Constant discharge current according to manufacturer specifications • Ambient temperature: 20 °C ± 10 °C; safety functions active. • End of test: protection is activated or the discharge reaches 25% of the nominal voltage. Annex 9H is passed if there are no safety-critical events, meaning there is no electrolyte leakage, rupture, venting, fire, or explosion. AI Act implementation in Germany: A key step towards trustworthy AI 🤖 Germany has reached an important milestone on the path to implementing the EU AI Act. With the adoption of the national implementation legislation by the Bundesrat, the framework for market surveillance and notification can now be signed into law and promulgated. It will enter into force on the day following its promulgation. We welcome Germany’s approach Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (Bundesministerium für Digitales und Staatsmodernisierung) explicitly, which builds on proven product compliance structures while preserving sector-specific expertise where third-party conformity assessment is required. The Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) will play a central role in coordinating market surveillance and supporting the implementation of the AI Act. Now, we must pivot to execution:  🔹 A strong and efficient ecosystem requires close cooperation between the Bundesnetzagentur, DAkkS, and conformity assessment bodies. Only a coordinated approach will enable AI Act requirements to be implemented consistently, efficiently, and in a way that supports innovation. 🔹 DEKRA stands ready to contribute as a conformity assessment body and trusted partner for the private and public sector developing and deploying AI solutions. The plan is working. ✅  A few years ago, DEKRA made a strategic decision: to bring together experts from different disciplines to take global vehicle homologation to the next level. The challenge was significant. We needed to enter new markets, build new structures, and develop new processes. Today, it’s clear that the strategy is paying off. 🚀 Together with our Technical Service in Italy, we developed the Project & Product Support model. In collaboration with our APAC teams, we established the Global Homologation Hub (GHH). Our colleagues in China, in particular, have played a key role in building a business area that is truly unique within DEKRA. Our recent international meeting in Shanghai once again demonstrated the expertise, commitment, and team spirit that define our global collaboration. Together, we are laying the foundation for the mobility of tomorrow by developing new structures, expanding into international markets, and actively shaping the future of global vehicle homologation. 🔋Incorrect charging control, an invalid setpoint, or a defective sensor: the overcharge protection logic must operate safely under all conditions. Annex 9G of UN ECE R100 verifies that the overcharge protection function reliably prevents the REESS (Rechargeable Electrical Energy Storage System) from excessive energy input. Key aspects of the test: • Test object: complete vehicle or complete REESS • SOC at test start within the normal operating range • Constant charging with the maximum current specified by the manufacturer • Ambient temperature of 20 °C ± 10 °C with safety functions active • End of test: protection activated, +10 °C above maximum operating temperature, or after 12 hours The safety verification is considered fulfilled if excessive energy input does not lead to critical reactions: no electrolyte leakage, no rupture, no venting, no fire, and no explosion. This provides standards-compliant validation of the overcharge protection strategy.
