What does it take to observe a solar eclipse safely? Mark the day in your calendar: On 12 August, a solar eclipse will offer a fascinating opportunity to experience how light shapes the way we see and understand our universe. Behind every successful observation lies a combination of advanced photonic technologies: ☀️ Optical protection filters 📷 Cameras and image sensors 🔬 Spectroscopy of the solar corona ⚡ High-speed imaging 🌍 Atmospheric light measurement Safety must always come first. Cameras, telescopes and binoculars require a suitable solar filter placed in front of the optics. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection for direct solar observation. So, make sure you have the right equipment at hand! The eclipse is not only an impressive natural phenomenon - it is also a powerful demonstration of how photonics enables us to observe, measure and analyse light. Our neighbour in Oberpfaffenhofen Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. provides interesting details, as well as timings for you to get your gear ready: https://lnkd.in/ezbcckMH   #SolarEclipse #Photonics #Optics #Spectroscopy #Imaging #MachineVision #Laser2000 #ConnectingPhotonics

Many people assume choosing a #Laser for #Raman #Spectroscopy is simply a question of more power = better results. In reality, the laser wavelength often has a much greater impact on your measurement. 🔬 Why does the same sample produce excellent spectra with one laser - but almost unusable data with another? The answer lies in the trade-off between: • Raman signal intensity • Fluorescence • Sample damage • Measurement speed A 532 nm laser can deliver outstanding sensitivity. But for some samples, switching to 785 nm - or even 1064 nm - can completely transform the quality of the spectrum. So how do you know which wavelength is right for your application? The latest Knowledge Base article by Photonics Advisor Martin Labus explains the strengths, limitations, and typical applications of the most common Raman excitation wavelengths - and provides practical guidance for selecting the right solution. 👇 Read the full article 👇 What excitation wavelength do you use most often for Raman measurements? #RamanSpectroscopy #Photonics #Spectroscopy #LaserTechnology #OpticalInstrumentation #MaterialsScience #AnalyticalInstrumentation #Laser2000 #ConnectingPhotonics

🚀 Spectroscopy is helping shape the future of space exploration. Researchers at the University of Arkansas are exploring formation-flying CubeSats designed to study planetary atmospheres using spectroscopy. By separating the laser source and detector across two spacecraft, this approach could provide new insights into the atmospheres of planets like Venus, Titan, and Mars. A key challenge? Keeping spacecraft synchronized. To address this, researchers tested optical communication using LED signals detected by spectrometers. In laboratory testing, the StellarNet BLACK-Comet-SR successfully received communication signals at up to 70 baud, demonstrating how spectroscopy can support both scientific measurement and spacecraft communication. From Earth-based research to future planetary missions, spectroscopy continues to expand what we can discover with light. ⚙️ Built by StellarNet—an engineering-owned and led technology company delivering Intelligence from Light. 👉 Read the full research highlight: https://lnkd.in/eHpMybe8 #SpaceExploration #CubeSat #Spectroscopy #Photonics #OpticalCommunication #PlanetaryScience #Aerospace #StellarNet
