Germany just decided to reform statutory pensions. Partial capital funding, a more flexible retirement age, more people covered. After decades of a blocked debate, that's real progress. 🍋 lemon.markets, published our response to the Alterssicherungskommission's final report and the coalition committee's decisions – alongside Vanguard, ginkgo, Raisin, Smartbroker AG, Upvest, Baader Bank AG, as the Initiative Digitale Altersvorsorge. 🏛️ Occupational pensions (bAV) are a different story. Instead of a fix, the report hands the hard decisions to a "Sozialpartner-Dialog" between unions and employer associations. Here's the catch: most German SMEs have neither a collective agreement nor a works council. The one model built on that structure has reached just ~40,000 employees in eight years – barely any of them at small businesses. Handing it to the same people won't change that. What we're proposing instead: 🚫 No statutory guarantees eating into returns 🔓 No subsidiary employer liability 🔄 Full portability when people change jobs ✅ Opt-out enrolment ⚙️ Products that are simple to administer Half of German employees still have no workplace pension.
