A milestone for Germany’s energy storage expansion Together with our partner ECO STOR, representatives from politics, the energy industry, and the local community, we celebrated the progress of the Förderstedt battery storage project in Saxony-Anhalt yesterday. With a planned power capacity of 300 MW and an energy storage capacity of more than 700 MWh, Förderstedt is one of the most significant battery storage infrastructure projects in Germany and currently the country’s largest privately financed battery energy storage system (BESS). As renewable energy generation continues to grow, large-scale battery storage is becoming a key pillar of the energy transition. It provides flexibility, supports grid stability, and enables a more efficient integration of wind and solar power into the energy system. As technology partner, SMA is supplying the core grid integration and power conversion technology for the project: ✅ 96 × Medium Voltage Power Stations (MVPS) 4400 ✅ 96 × Sunny Central Storage UP-S 4400 battery inverters ✅ 2 black-start-capable MVPS to support grid restoration in the event of a large-scale outage The modular system architecture ensures high availability, precise control, and reliable operation at utility scale while providing the flexibility needed for future grid requirements. Projects like Förderstedt show how large-scale battery storage is becoming an essential building block of a resilient, renewable energy system. Together with ECO STOR, we're proud to contribute to this landmark project and look forward to supporting its path toward commercial operation in 2027.

One of France's largest photovoltaic projects currently under construction is taking shape 🙌 Together with Innergex France, we are supporting the development of the Grenier des Essences solar park with 16 MVPS 4600 UP solutions, including our Sunny Central UP central inverters manufactured at our headquarter in Kassel/Niestetal, Germany. Once commissioned in 2027, the 93 MWp project is expected to generate around 108 GWh of clean energy annually, helping power more than 24,000 households. Strong partnerships and reliable technology are key to advancing the energy transition. We are proud to contribute to this landmark solar project and support a more sustainable energy future in France. Strengthening grid-ready renewable energy systems through advanced PV + BESS integration.   SMA Italia has successfully supported the commissioning of the battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Montalto la Viola plant in Lazio, Italy, owned by Recurrent Energy.   The project combines a 13.75 MW / 43 MWh battery energy storage system with a 35 MWp photovoltaic plant, both sharing the same grid connection point to optimize renewable energy utilization and overall system performance.    SMA Italia supplied:  ✅ 5 Medium Voltage Power Stations equipped with Sunny Central Storage UP-XT inverters  ✅ SMA Power Plant Manager (PPM) for plant control and communication   One of the key challenges was the seamless integration of PV and storage assets within a hybrid architecture while ensuring compliance with demanding grid requirements and maintaining reliable operation. With its native integration capabilities, the SMA Power Plant Manager enables stable control, reliable communication, and coordinated operation within the plant’s architecture.    This project highlights how deep expertise in grid integration, energy management and large-scale system design helps transform increasingly complex renewable energy projects into reliable and bankable assets.   Congratulations to everyone involved in another important milestone for energy storage in Italy.

Fully produced. Actually ready for the customer. But some devices take a different route.   From ongoing production straight into the SMA Test Center. This is where we additionally test production devices in our climate chambers. Because quality matters beyond development.   👉 Here's part 5 of our video series: From production straight into the test center.

Well done! SMA has been recognized by S&P Global Energy as a “Tier 1 PV Inverter Supplier 2026”! This makes us one of a few select PV inverter suppliers to meet the transparent, data-driven requirements of the Tier 1 classification. We performed particularly strongly in the areas of market presence, market share, company size and sustainability. Why does this matter? Because PV projects are not only about technology, they are also about having confidence in a strong and reliable long-term partner. That is exactly what this recognition represents. A big thank-you to all our colleagues who contribute to this success every day!

From vision to operation: The 24.5 MW / 64 MWh BESS in Einbeck is now live 🙌 We were delighted to celebrate the successful commissioning of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Einbeck, Germany, together with our partner RheinEnergie AG. During the official inauguration, representatives of RheinEnergie AG, SMA Altenso, and the Mayor of Einbeck, Dr. Sabine Michalek, visited the site and marked this important milestone. With an output of 24.5 MW and a storage capacity of 64 MWh, the BESS provides system-relevant services that support frequency regulation and grid stability. As EPC contractor, SMA Altenso delivered the project from engineering and procurement to installation and commissioning. The storage solution comprises SMA Medium Voltage Power Stations (MVPS) equipped with Sunny Central Storage UP inverters, and 16 battery containers. In addition to providing primary and secondary control reserve, the system enables participation in energy markets. Sustainability was also a key focus throughout the project. The planting of native trees, shrubs, and other vegetation, together with additional biodiversity measures, creates added ecological value for both the environment and the local community. A sincere thank you to RheinEnergie AG, the city of Einbeck, and all colleagues, partners, and contractors whose dedication and collaboration made this project a success. The Einbeck BESS is another important step toward a more flexible, resilient, and future-ready grid while enabling the efficient integration of renewable energy.   Burkhard Söhngen | Stephan Segbers | Benjamin Gevelhoff | Christoph Zinßer

Some stories are worth the heat!   Here's what you don't see in a final video – behind the scenes involving two days of intense filming under a blazing 40°C sun with a dedicated crew determined to get the shot right ☀️   Recently, we headed to Portugal for a photo and video shoot at two impressive photovoltaic sites operated by Akuo: ⚡ Santas – 230 MWp of installed capacity, featuring 46 SMA MVPS 4600 medium-voltage stations. ⚡ Margalha – 147 MWp of installed capacity, featuring 31 SMA MVPS 4600 medium-voltage stations.   From early starts to long hours on site, the shoot offered a close-up look at the scale, engineering and teamwork behind these projects. It's easy to admire a finished video, but every shot is the result of careful planning, collaboration and plenty of hard work, especially when temperatures soar over 40°C.   A huge thank you to Akuo and Paulo Ribeiro's team for the warm welcome and allowing us onto the site for the filming and taking part. Also a big thanks to the talented film crew led by Derick Muller, and to our SMA colleagues Hadrien Dumontet, Blanca García de Vinuesa and Brice ROQUET for participating in the very warm shoot.   Now the cameras are packed away, the editing begins. We can't wait to share the finished video with you soon.

Another important milestone has been reached in the construction of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Höxter, Germany.   As part of SMA's commitment to delivering large-scale energy storage solutions, our subsidiary SMA Altenso continues to make strong progress on this landmark project with the successful delivery of the two transformers and the Medium Voltage Power Stations (MVPS).   These major components form the backbone of the system. The transformers play a key role in connecting the energy storage system to the grid, while the MVPS serve as a critical interface for power conversion and grid integration. Their on-time delivery establishes the foundation for the next stages of installation and commissioning.   The progress achieved so far reflects the close collaboration between SMA, SMA Altenso, and MEAG, with all project partners working successfully together to deliver reliable, utility-scale energy storage projects.   Looking ahead, the battery systems are scheduled to arrive in summer, ahead of the original project timeline. Their delivery will mark another significant step toward commissioning and performance testing.   A big thank you to everyone involved for their coordination, planning, and teamwork in reaching this milestone. We look forward to sharing further updates as the project continues to advance.
