Step inside the Macmillan archive to explore nearly two centuries of publishing history From the original illustrations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to the founding of Nature, the archive preserves the books, journals, letters and illustrations behind some of the world's most influential publications. Here, Elly Crookes (Archive Manager, Macmillan), Magdalena Skipper (Editor-in-Chief, Nature) and Joyce Lorigan (Chief Marketing Officer and UK location lead, Springer Nature) reflect on the importance of preserving these collections, and on the role that reading, curiosity and storytelling continue to play in our lives. This film premiered before selected screenings at Everyman on the Canal 2026 as part of Springer Nature's science film takeover. It shows the power of compelling storytelling in many mediums: from the story behind a scientific discovery to an enthralling sci-fi adventure on the big screen. Sometimes, a new setting can help you approach familiar work with fresh energy. When Rachael Mason took her workation in Sri Lanka, she and her team were working on a major Learning Management System project. Working remotely from a new environment proved not only to boost her mood and motivation, but also to offer a valuable opportunity to find deeper focus. As a Learning Designer in our Nature Masterclasses team, Rachael’s daily work involves making training content effective and engaging for researchers. During her time exploring different coastal towns, her routine also made space for yoga and surfing, local cafés and ocean views, and more opportunities to meet new people, all while staying closely connected with her team in London. After a first workation in Bali the year before, this second experience reminded her what a change of setting can bring to both work and life — including something as simple as logging on feeling happier. ☀️ What better way to celebrate summer than by coming together as colleagues during a heat wave? Earlier this month, more than 500 Springer Nature colleagues gathered at Halle02 in Heidelberg—just across from our Europaplatz office—for our annual Summer Party. Before the celebrations began, colleagues joined a Town Hall where CEO Frank Vrancken Peeters reflected on the company’s progress, encouraged everyone to be proud of Springer Nature’s success. Following a lively Q&A session, Heidelberg location lead Volker Boeing introduced the new co-lead Cord Stähler, who officially opened the evening’s festivities. And what a celebration it was: sunshine, great conversations, delicious food and wine, refreshing cold drinks, and live music from Heidelberg-based band The Wright Thing, whose mix of soul, funk, pop, jazz and rock ’n’ roll kept many colleagues on the dance floor throughout the evening. #LifeAtSpringerNature #BePartOfProgress

A PhD can open doors beyond academia, but an academic CV doesn’t always speak the language of industry. Although academic recruiters like to see exhaustive publication lists and awards, industry employers are more interested in the impact candidates can make. It was a great privilege to join librarians, researchers, and distinguished representatives from Malaysia's higher education community and the Department of Higher Education at the first Malaysian Open Science Excellence Awards (MOSEA) 2026 created by Springer Nature, held in Putrajaya near Kuala Lumpur on July 9th. Organised in collaboration with the Consortium of Electronic Resources for Higher Education (KONSEPt) , endorsed by Malaysia's Department of Higher Education (JPT), and co-hosted by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the event marked a year of the Springer Nature-KONSEPt national transformative agreement in Malysia and acted as an opportunity to celebrate the people and institutions advancing Open Science and Open Access across the region. Supporting affiliated researchers, in just over a year, Malaysian researchers have been able to publish over 700 OA articles, gaining over 1.17 million accesses worldwide. This is significant, as not only has it supported more researchers in publishing OA, but as can be seen from the access figures, it has ensured that their research can be read, and accessed more on a global stage – advancing knowledge worldwide and supporting Malaysian researcher in the advancement of their careers.  Congratulations to all award recipients and nominees, and thank you to our partners at KONSEPt, JPT, UPM, and everyone in the springer Nature team who helped make the ceremony a success. We are incredibly proud of this partnership and what, collectively, we are able to offer the research community. Thank you to our partners at KONSEPt, JPT, UPM, and everyone in the springer Nature team who continue to drive forward this benefits that open science can bring for the region. "...I had only received my diagnosis not long before joining [Springer Nature], so I was still learning how to talk about it. I was also learning how to accept myself with this new part of me. The only reason I could be open that early was that the environment felt safe, and my manager was supportive." Generation Valuable mentee Gonzalo M. Gonzales shares what he learned through his mentoring relationship at Springer Nature, how it helped shape his confidence as a leader, and what it was like speaking on stage at SYNC25. He reminds business leaders, "Don't be afraid to invest in disabled and neurodivergent talent," and shares the powerful reminder that inclusion isn't defined by policies alone; it shows up in accommodations, safety and trust.
