    India’s largest non-ferrous scrap recycler is proving where performance is truly decided. ♻️ At CMR Green Technologies Limited, which processes 600,000 tonnes of scrap each year, sorting is not simply one step in the process.     HOW MUCH VALUE IS HIDDEN IN A COLOUR? In construction and demolition waste, the answer may lie between red brick and grey concrete. At first glance, both materials belong to the same mineral stream. For recycling, though, they can end up as different fractions, each headed down a different route back into use. This is one example of the material tests we run at the STEINERT MSort Test Center in Wedel. An MSort AT sorts the 20 to 80 mm fraction by colour, wet and no drying required. We make splitting red brick from grey concrete the easy part, so the recycler can focus on the harder part: shaping those fractions into material that holds up to the requirements of its intended application. #Waste #Sorting #Recycling #CircularEconomy #Sustainability

    Light packaging sorting usually brings plastics to mind first. But steel and aluminium packaging also has to leave the stream at the right point. BZB retrofit in Amorebieta, Spain, recently shared by STADLER Group, is a good example of how many sorting steps need to work together in one line. Our part is metal separation: 2 STEINERT UME magnetic separators and 3 STEINERT EddyC eddy current separators. For an operator, the value is practical. Recoverable metals leave as their own fractions. Downstream sorting and processing does not carry material that should already be out of the line. Steel follows the magnet.     At Dryden Aqua in Edinburgh, green and brown recycled glass is processed into AFM® (Activated Filter Media), a filter medium for water treatment applications. MSort AF sorting systems remove contaminants such as ceramics, stones and porcelain from material in the 4–60 mm range, producing the clean fraction required for AFM®.     To recover the glass, we first remove everything else. Fines below 55 mm from mixed recyclables contain more than glass. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ceramic, stone and porcelain (CSP), films, e-cigarettes and black plastics are all closely mixed in the same stream. This means that the separation has to take place step by step. Depending on the material composition and the required quality, the process can produce four separate fractions: Fe, NFe, CSP and glass. At our Test and Development Centres, we tested this process sequence with MRF fines. In Pulheim, undersize and light material were removed first. A 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐓 𝐔𝐌𝐄 then separated the ferrous metals. An 𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐲 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 followed to recover aluminium and other non-ferrous metals. The remaining heavy fraction was tested in Wedel. An 𝐌𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐗 used colour-based sensor sorting to remove CSP and black plastics. The glass fraction was recovered at the end of the sequence. The example shows how magnetic separation, eddy current separation and sensor sorting can work together. Each machine removes another part of the mix before the glass is recovered.     The strictest door in recycling does not check your ID. It checks the spectrum and the colour. Every PET tray in the Cirrec plant has to pass this door: our AI-based sorting programme, STEINERT Intelligent Object.Identifier (IOI), working the door. Food-grade trays get in, back into food packaging. Everything else takes a different route. No fake IDs work on this one. Before the door, a STEINERT UME overhead magnet and STEINERT EddyC eddy current separators clear out the metal, and three STEINERT UniSort PR EVO 5.0 NIR sorters split the rest by polymer and colour. Strict, because a food-grade tray is only food-grade if nothing else was mixed in on the way. If a tray passes, it becomes new food packaging again. If not, it is not wasted either, it just goes a different way, as coloured or clear rPET for other products.
