festival for art & digital culture berlin

Info

transmediale is a Berlin-based festival and year-round project that draws out new connections between art, culture, and technology. For over thirty years, transmediale creates a space for critical reflection on cultural transformation from a post-digital perspective. The annual festival brings together international artists, researchers, activists, and thinkers with the goal of developing new outlooks on our technological era through the entanglement of different genres and curatorial approaches. Beyond the yearly event, transmediale is a transversal, dynamic platform with a vibrant community and a strong network that facilitates regular publications and year-round activities including commissions and a residency programme with different partner institutions. Since 2021 and for the first time in the festival’s history, transmediale runs its studio space at silent green Kulturquartier, hosting different event formats and activities throughout the year.

Announcing CTM 2027’s theme - Proccess...ing. › Full details: https://lnkd.in/dyq7yKx2 We live in a present saturated by predefined scripts, hungry algorithms, and extractivist protocols, increasingly turning us into providers within systems we did not build. As the speed and complexity of these routines accelerate, they incapacitate our fundamental need to actually process what is happening around and within us, sacrificing agency, spontaneity, and our capacity for genuine thought. Within CTM 2027, Process…ing means resisting closure and valuing the collective acts of making and sharing above the polished artifact. In a world that demands finished results, we choose to remain unfinished, in relation, and present.

Open Call for 2027 Residents The open calls for our 2027 residencies are now online! 🔔 How do we reconfigure technical paradigms towards new cultural protocols, outside of widespread extractive logics, moving from critique to construction? The 2027 residency programme extends transmediale’s moment of reflection and future-imagining of its 40th anniversary across the year and asks how a network can stay legible to itself while the structures surrounding it are breaking down. This year’s open call seeks proposals offering alternatives to how we understand, respond to, and shape the technological conditions we inhabit. As the days get warmer on this side of the world, we have a lot to share. We are excited to announce the titles and thematic framework of transmediale 2027 💥 Under the title groundstates, the festival’s programme will take place during the last week of January 2027 in silent green. The exhibition fragile currents will be on show at the Akademie der Künste (Hanseatenweg) until March. Curated by Barbara Cueto, the festival revolves around the human scale of technology, resisting the expectation of a single technological future. groundstates presents four days of discursive and performative programme. The exhibition, curated by Antonina Stebur, treats infrastructural breakdown not as a moment of collapse but as a condition from which other forms of organisation can emerge. fragile currents presents a series of installations and a public programme developed with international partners. Save the Date 📅  12–13 September 2026  Transgressive Memory Festival silent green, Berlin 📍    What happens when memory refuses to be governed? When institutionalised forms of remembrance no longer hold? When archives glitch, bodies remember differently, and history is no longer fixed, but re-opened, contested, and rewired?   The eCommemoration Festival 2026, Transgressive Memory, that takes place during the Berlin Art Week, invites you to step into a new terrain of remembrance, where media art, performance, and critical discourse collide to challenge how, why, and by whom the past is told. The festival proposes transgressive memory as both method and principle: a mode of remembrance that unsettles institutionalised rituals, dissolves the border between documentary and fiction, and acknowledges the complicity of technology in shaping collective consciousness. Announcing the Festival Curator for 2027 We’re pleased to announce that Barbara Cueto will curate the 2027 edition of transmediale, marking the festival’s 40th anniversary. Selected through an international open call, Cueto brings a research-driven curatorial practice shaped by long-term engagement with critical technologies, decentralised infrastructures, and questions of value and resistance. Cueto was selected by transmediale’s advisory board, consisting of Nora Al-Badri, Asia Bazdyrieva, Gabriele Horn, and Jussi Parikka, for a proposal that places historical lineages of critical technological practice in dialogue with contemporary experimentation. The 2027 edition coincides with 40 years of transmediale, which began as VideoFilmFest in 1988. Alongside the festival, a major exhibition curated by Antonina Stebur will be presented at Akademie der Künste. We look forward to welcoming Barbara to the transmediale communtity!
