𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢 Libya has seen intense fighting in the past years – and many places are littered with explosive remnants of the fighting. South of Tripoli agricultural land has been rendered idle because of the dangers lurking just under the surface – but that is slowly changing. Towards the end of June DCA Libya received a delegation from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs who funds DCA’s clearance operations. Operations that we carry out in close collaboration with our Libyan partner, Trusted Aid for Development (TAD). Jointly DCA and TAD have been surveying and clearing an area of 111.5 square kilometres, some of which are being replanted with trees in line with the government’s ’10 million tree planting project’ 🌳 The project aims to mitigate against desertification and sand encroaching on the city and increase biodiversity and local food production 💚 The Dutch visitors were given a tour and briefing of activities by TAD – to see how the support makes a difference for people in areas contaminated by unexploded ordnance. TAD has received organisational training and support from DCA Libya. As the clearance work continues all-female explosive ordnance risk education and survey teams will be established to include more women in the important work of making Libya safe from explosive hazards again. Thanks to generous funding from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs DCA Libya will continue to clear land and return it to productive use, build the capacity of national partners, and train and include more women in the humanitarian response until 2030 🙏 📸 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘴 Marja Esveld – 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘶𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘳 Erik van Oudheusden – 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘴 𝘔𝘴 Heleen Baartmans – 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘺 𝘈𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘪𝘣𝘺𝘢. #MineAction #HazardtoHarvest #MACM

Thanks to generous support from Augustinus Fonden (The Augustinus Foundation) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, DanChurchAid in Ethiopia can offer lifesaving assistance to South Sudanese refugees who have been displaced by increased levels of conflict in their home country. Tens of thousands of refugees huddle together in overcrowded and highly vulnerable conditions in Ethiopia’s Gambella region – while new people arrive every day. The Luakdong and Tormorok camps already host numbers that far exceed what they were expected to accommodate – and the situation is made worse by floods and poor infrastructure. Access to food and water is limited and health services and protection for the most vulnerable close to non-existent. The situation is extremely precarious with assessments showing a critical lack of food among the displaced, widespread malnutrition and increased risks of violence and abuse for women and children. With the new support DanChurchAid can offer fresh food assistance for more than 2,000 people for up to eight months. Through a voucher system they can buy fresh food items at a local market - which also stimulates fragile local markets around the camps. The food assistance complements food rations delivered by the World Food Programme that currently cover only about half of the needs across the two camps. As displacement continues to rise, sustained support remains critical to ensure refugees can access the food, safety, and opportunities they need to move forward.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐮𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐎𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐄𝐔 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝! 👏 Tina Breum Mariegaard is the head of Global Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation (GPRM) at DanChurchAid – and brings a wealth of experience in partnerships and consortia to VOICE EU. Tina was elected at the VOICE EU's AGM in June and will be the only Danish representative on the board after Fie Lauritzen from Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp stepped down after serving the maximum two terms on the board. In her election speech Tina stressed that collective action is essential as we face unprecedented humanitarian challenges. Now – and in years to come. As humanitarian principles and humanitarian space are under pressure, strong voices of solidarity are needed to safeguard some of the most fundamental values of our community – and ensure that funding is made available that enables DanChurchAid, and the humanitarian community at large, to deliver aid where it is most needed – when it is needed. VOICE (Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies) is the largest European humanitarian NGO network (94 members) promoting efficient and effective humanitarian action worldwide since 1992. It is the main NGO interlocutor with the European Union on emergency action. VOICE EU members are active in different sectors of humanitarian action in all countries affected by natural disasters, armed conflicts and emergency situations. Most of VOICE EU's members, including DanChurchAid, are partners of the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (@DG ECHO) of the European Commission / EU in Emergencies

Two dead after Russian missile attack on Norwegian People's Aid / Norsk Folkehjelp's demining team in Ukraine 💔 Humanitarian organisations are protected under international humanitarian law and demining specialists and humanitarian workers should never be targeted ⛔
On 24 June, while conducting a humanitarian demining mission in Kherson Oblast, Russian forces struck staff of the international organisation Norwegian People's Aid / Norsk Folkehjelp (NPA) with a missile. As a result of this attack, two NPA employees were killed and others were injured. This was confirmed by official sources from Norwegian People's Aid. Secretary General Raymond Johansen stated: “This is terrible news. My thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and colleagues of those affected.” We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and our unwavering support to our injured colleagues. Demining specialists and humanitarian workers should never be targeted. Their daily mission is to clear Ukrainian land of explosive hazards, protect civilians, and save lives. We strongly condemn this attack and stand in solidarity with our colleagues at NPA and the entire mine action community, which continues its work despite the deadly risks.
