In March, a major survey of streaming professionals on 2026 codec plans: 40% deploying AV1 this year, while H.264 (standardised 2003) still sits at 84%. 📊 Both numbers are right. Codec transitions in streaming are never replacements; the 2016 smart TVs in your subscriber base make sure of that. So AVC, HEVC and AV1 run side by side, with VVC queuing behind them. The storage bill is where this hurts. Each codec brings a ladder, multiplied by containers and DRM systems: five rungs x two containers x two DRM stacks is 20 stored variants per asset per codec, before 4K or a second audio language. And most of it is never watched; on the cloud DVR platforms we have measured, playback ever touches single-digit percentages of recordings. The alternative is storing once, in open formats, and packaging Just-In-Time per device request. A Tier-1 operator running this model cut cloud DVR storage from over 100 PB to 55, and its next codec will not multiply that number. 🚀 Full write-up in the first comment, including what JIT does not fix (the encode-side bill keeps its full weight). How many codecs is your library carrying today: two, three or four? #OTT #VideoCodecs #StreamingInfrastructure

🌍 Ateme’s 2025 carbon footprint results are out ! We completed our 2025 carbon footprint assessment with Greenly! Let's see how our emissions across our global operations are looking... 📊 Key figures  - Total emissions: 21,361 tCO₂e  - 39.1 tCO₂e per employee  - 223 tCO₂e per €M revenue  - 91% of emissions calculated using physical activity data As a video technology company, it is no surprise that digital activities account for 73% of our footprint, with:  - Cloud, SaaS and software licenses representing 72% of emissions within the digital category  - IT equipment accounting for 15% The assessment also highlights that:  - Purchased products represent 14% of our total emissions  - Business travel represents 7%  - Freight transport represents 3% These results reinforce a reality shared by many in the industry: the environmental impact of digital services extends well beyond office energy consumption and includes infrastructure, cloud services, software ecosystems, and equipment throughout their lifecycle. 💡 This carbon assessment helps us better identify our priority areas for action, strengthen collaboration with our suppliers and partners, and support our commitment to more sustainable innovation.  A big thank you to our teams and partners who contributed to the data collection and analysis process! #Sustainability #CSR #CarbonFootprint #ClimateAction
