UNOMR 🇨🇭 is pushing the boundaries of what protein analysis can do — today too slow, too expensive, and not precise enough to catch diseases early or develop better treatments fast enough. Spun out of ETH Zürich, their single-molecule sensor platform delivers unprecedented depth of protein modification data. This technology could help oncologists detect tumours before symptoms appear, and give drug developers the protein-level precision they need to build better treatments faster. Congratulations to EarthPulse, the winner of the ESA Φ-lab Grand Marathon 2025! 👏 After developing and pitching their prototypes this May at the CommEO 26 in Sevilla, the top 3 runners of this year's European Space Agency - ESA Φ-Lab Grand Marathon (in collaboration with Save the Children Italia & UP42) took the stage at the Hello Tomorrow Summit a few weeks ago for a final assessment. We heard three fantastic pitches, and the jury cast their votes. The winner is: 🏆 EarthPulse: blending EO and AI to provide trusted, explainable insights via maps and APIs for risk, ESG and operations, plus event-driven hazard monitoring that detects short-lived threats in minutes. A huge thank you again to the other two runners, Prometheus Space Technologies and Zero Gravity Oy – thermal EO. 🇨🇱 The DEEPSCALE Climate Tech Accelerator’s First Edition, hosted in collaboration with startuplab.01, is officially live! Last week, Vincent Durand, Lucas Maurice, and Carolina Montealegre from the Hello Tomorrow team were in Santiago de Chile for the program’s Launch event. Over the course of the programme, we'll be supporting: 🚀 8 Chilean startups preparing for international expansion 🌎 3 International ones entering the Chilean market The launch also brought together key players from across the LATAM deep tech ecosystem: institutional partners, corporates, investors and startups. A clear signal of the momentum building in the region. We also spent time with the local community of founders, sharing the trends we're observing in the global deep tech ecosystem and where the real opportunities lie for LATAM startups ready to scale beyond their home market. Once again, a huge thank you to Consuelo Monje Pinto, Francisca Contreras Vera, Valy Cummings Hoffmann, Carolina Carrasco, and the startuplab.01 team for the warm welcome in their Hub in Santiago! 🙌 The technology and talent coming out of the region speak for themselves. Delft Circuits 🇳🇱 is fixing one of quantum computing's most persistent engineering bottlenecks: getting signals in and out of chips that operate near absolute zero. Their flagship product, Cri/oFlex®, is a superconducting flexible cable that replaces conventional wiring inside cryostats — already used by quantum labs and computing companies worldwide, enabling the kind of scalable, reliable cryogenic I/O that next-generation quantum hardware depends on. 👏 Congrats to CPO & Co-Founder Daan Kuitenbrouwer for the great pitch. LP appetite for deep tech is strong, but the next phase of allocation will be defined less by enthusiasm and more by structure. Their next-gen batteries are based entirely on raw materials and production processes available in Europe, up to 3x lighter than conventional alternatives, and compatible with existing battery production infrastructure. The applications speak for themselves: drones, electric planes, EVs, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles, all powered by high-energy batteries that don't depend on non-European supply chains. The chips that move data inside AI data centers, power electrified transport, and advanced defence systems, are being rethought – and Europe is often portrayed as falling behind. A recent survey of European industry representatives and policymakers by the Chips Diplomacy Support Initiative (CHIPDIPLO) paints a bleak picture of the continent's semiconductor future. However, our own research tells a more nuanced story. Today we are launching the 2026 Semiconductor Innovation Report, based on our analysis of 1,500+ semiconductor startups worldwide, and interviews with semiconductor experts from industry leaders, investors, and startup founders. According to our findings, integrated photonics – using light instead of electrical signals to move data – is one of the domains where Europe's position looks strongest with nearly a third of the world's photonic startups originating in Europe. Two we recognised early as Deep Tech Pioneers are worth watching: 🔹 Lumiphase (2021 Deep Tech Pioneer), an IBM Research Zurich spinout, builds optical chips that move data between datacenter servers faster and with less energy than conventional electronics allow. They're already running their own foundry for paying customers. 🔹 CCRAFT (2025 Deep Tech Pioneer), a Swiss photonics foundry, is building the high-bandwidth optical interconnects that AI and HPC workloads increasingly depend on. The technology is credible. Whether it scales here or gets absorbed elsewhere depends on who commits to it, and how early.
