From approximately 2028, Vema plans to supply more than 4,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen per year from its Quebec project. By co-locating hydrogen production and e-fuel synthesis, the partners aim to reduce transportation constraints, infrastructure requirements and supply-chain risks. To convert mineral hydrogen and captured CO₂ into synthetic aviation fuel, SAF+ will deploy KHIMOD’s compact and modular reactor technology. The project would also mark KHIMOD’s first commercial deployment in North America, demonstrating how modular process intensification can support scalable and competitive SAF production. Under the memorandum of understanding, Vema Hydrogen plans to supply more than 4,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen per year from approximately 2028. SAF+ International Group will use this hydrogen, together with captured CO₂, to produce synthetic sustainable aviation fuel. At the heart of the production process: KHIMOD’s compact and modular heat exchanger-reactor technology. This project would mark KHIMOD’s first deployment in North America and illustrates how process intensification can support more efficient, scalable and cost-effective synthetic fuel production.
