About yesterday… We’ve seen your messages, comments, and (very valid) questions by pm. No, Marathon Plants is not (yet) heading to Mars with SpaceX. But the story wasn’t entirely fiction. Everything we shared about our plant varieties is real: 🌱 Designed for low water consumption 🌱 Adapted to challenging environments 🌱 Optimized for efficiency and resilience And while Mars might be a stretch (for now), the need for plants that can thrive under extreme conditions here on Earth is very real. In a world facing climate change, water scarcity, and increasing environmental pressure, innovation in horticulture is no longer optional — it’s essential. So yes, yesterday was an April Fool’s post. But the mission behind it? Absolutely serious. Thank you for engaging, questioning, and being part of the conversation. Back to Earth — and back to work 🌍

Marathon Plants is a group of growers with more than thirty years of experience in floriculture. We produce, market, and export ornamental plants wholesale, mainly in the potted and bedding varieties, like Hibiscus, Mandevilla, Gardenia, Hydrangea, Rhododendron, and green Houseplants. Additionally, we represent various Australian breeders in Europe, producing high tolerance native species tested for durability in the Mediterranean climate (Anigozanthos, Dianella, Lomandra, Eremophila, Acacia). We have also added selected genes of Aloe to our portfolio by collaborating with an African breeder. At the same time, we invest in our R&D to create new breeds of Greek native species like Salvia, Rosemary, and Lavender.

Marathon Plants Selected for Pilot Program on Mars Bio-Adaptation Systems 🚀 🌌 Today, we’re proud to share a milestone that reflects years of focused innovation and consistent investment in R&D. According to exclusive information, Marathon Plants has been selected to participate in a pilot program with SpaceX, exploring plant-based biological adaptation in controlled Martian environments. 🛸 Our work on drought-resistant, low-input plant varieties with high photosynthetic efficiency is now being evaluated for application within closed-loop bio-dome systems designed to simulate Martian conditions. How the system is expected to work: Selected plant varieties will be deployed in modular, pressurized bio-domes featuring: • Regolith-based substrates enhanced with organic amendments • Closed-loop water recovery and micro-irrigation systems • LED-assisted photosynthesis to complement reduced solar radiation • Atmospheric control units regulating CO₂ concentration, pressure, and temperature Within these systems, plants are expected to: • Absorb CO₂ from the Martian atmosphere • Produce oxygen as a byproduct • Contribute to the gradual formation of organic matter While still in early stages, this initiative highlights the broader potential of resilient plant systems beyond traditional applications.
