We are proud to celebrate two #womenfarmers Mrs. Pooja Suryavanshi and Mrs. Sushama Deshmukh, who were honoured with the prestigious #CITI-BCI Women in Sustainable Cotton Farming Awards at Bharat Tex 2026, #NewDelhi. The awards were presented by Shri Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for Textiles, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to #sustainable and #climatesmartagriculture. Mrs. Pooja Suryavanshi has been empowering farming communities through the production and promotion of Yellow and Blue Sticky Traps and other biological pest control solutions, helping farmers adopt eco-friendly alternatives for pest management. Mrs. Sushama Deshmukh has emerged as a role model in #sustainablecotton cultivation by adopting #organicfarming practices, HDPS cotton cultivation, Azolla production, hydroponic fodder systems, and crop diversification through lemon cultivation, significantly improving productivity and farm income. In Bharseli, #Chhattisgarh, that change was led by #Sakhis Triveni Verma and Radha Vaishnav, who stepped forward as community #healthvolunteers and became the driving force behind the village’s transformation. They worked closely with families to address critical issues such as sanitation, water access, and health awareness, often going door to door to build understanding and trust. Through consistent effort and the support of #AmbujaFoundation, they helped bring practical solutions to the community, ensuring that people had the knowledge and resources to improve their living conditions. Their work extended beyond awareness, actively contributing to better infrastructure and stronger community systems. Over time, their efforts created a visible shift in the village. Healthier practices, improved facilities, and a stronger sense of community ownership became part of everyday life. All thanks to our partners Ambuja Cements Limited IndusInd Bank and HDFC Bank Parivartan in #Farakka West Bengal, #AmbujaFoundation has supported over 5,700 farmers across 23 villages by establishing 25 #RiverLiftIrrigation (RLI) systems, bringing assured irrigation to nearly 747 hectares of farmland. What was once largely single-crop land has now transformed into productive multi-cropping farmland. Farmers are now cultivating paddy, mustard, wheat, maize, and vegetables throughout the year, increasing cropping intensity from 100% to 250% and improving irrigation efficiency by nearly 30%. The impact has been remarkable. Average annual farm income has increased from ₹25,000-30,000 per acre to ₹80,000-₹1.5 lakh per acre, helping farming families build stronger and more resilient livelihoods. Managed by community-led Water User Groups, the initiative ensures sustainable water access and long-term agricultural growth.
