In order to control the semi-active suspension system, such as MR damper, sensory feedback is required. The skyhook control which is the most widely used algorithm admits the velocity of damper and vertical sprung mass. For this, additional attachment, such as a displacement sensor (e.g., an LVDT) or an accelerometer at the sprung mass is required. The present study proposes a method for estimating the damper speed from a pre-existing IMU sensor and a lower damper accelerometer considering the damper orientation in practice. It was validated that the performance of the skyhook-controlled suspension matches with the proposed algorithm.

The inline skate that is used at present has defects due to frequent impulse, which weakens the breaking force by damaging the parts. Therefore to solve these problems a break system for the inline skates using hydraulics is suggested. To solve the oil leakage problems, bellows is used. Also to prevent the breaks from not touching the ground when skating the bellows is placed at the heel, high as possible. To obtain fast response speed, the ratio of inner diameter of the bellows is changed so that with only a small displacement from the bellows the rubber pad attached to the bellows will touch the ground fast. The performance of the break system using bellows depends on the optimal design of the bellows. In this paper, the model reference adaptive control (MRAC) of a flexible structure is investigate... more In this paper, the model reference adaptive control (MRAC) of a flexible structure is investigated. Any mechanically flexible structure is inherently distributed parameter in nature, so that its dynamics are described by a partial, rather than ordinary, differential equation. The MRAC problem is formulated as an initial value problem of coupled partial and ordinary differential equations in weak form. The well-posedness of the initial value problem is proved. The control law is derived by using the Lyapunov redesign method on an infinite dimensional Hilbert space. Uniform asymptotic stability of the closed loop system is established, and asymptotic tracking, i. e., convergence of the state-error to zero, is obtained. With an additional persistence of excitation condition for the reference model, parameter-error convergence to zero is also shown. Numerical simulations are provided.

A Study on the Appication of Semi-Active Supension Units for a Combat Vehicle by Using HILS

There have been a lot of efforts on the improvement for the ride comfort and handling stability o... more There have been a lot of efforts on the improvement for the ride comfort and handling stability of the combat vehicles. Especially most of vehicles for military purpose have bad inertial condition and severe operating condition such as the rough road driving, and need a high mobility in the emergency status. It is necessary to apply the controlled suspension system in order to improve the vehicle mobile stability and ride comfort ability of crews. A feasibility study is performed on the application of the semi-active suspension system with a magneto-rheological controlled shock absorber for a 6×6 combat vehicle. First, the dynamic simulation model of the vehicle including the control model for the semi-active suspension system was executed. Based on this model, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS) system which has a semi-active suspension controller hardware was constructed. After full vehicle simulations were performed in virtual proving courses with this system, the semi-active suspension system was proven to give better ride comfort and handling stability in comparison with the conventional passive suspension system.
