Discusses their construction and consolidation processes as transportation system and their effect on the process of building modern city in Medellin and Barranquilla respectively. Similarly, we examine its operation as business projects and the different circumstances that led him to be the axis of the road system in their respective localitiesand crises that ultimately produce its decline and closure. It also discusses the historical, economic and social of the two urban centers, due to different experiences and commercial, industrial and cultural center of the Colombian nation in the first half twentieth century.

Resumen el objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar si las condiciones de vida y las variables socio... more Resumen el objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar si las condiciones de vida y las variables sociodemográficas están asociadas a la evaluación de la calidad de vida en los jóvenes. se aplicaron una encuesta de datos sociodemográficos y el instrumento WHoQol-100 a 418 jóvenes mexicanos que viven en ciudades con distintos niveles de desarrollo humano y económico. los resultados indican que no existe diferencia en las puntuaciones en la percepción de la calidad de vida al considerarse las condiciones de vida comunitarias; no obstante sí se encontró una ligera asociación entre el ingreso Familiar mensual y las puntuaciones en calidad de vida General. se coincide con otros autores en relación al impacto que implica los aspectos financieros, pero dada la complejidad de los elementos implicados en la satisfacción vital, no se considera un elemento determinante. occupational disease is "any pathological condition resulting from the continued action of a caus... more occupational disease is "any pathological condition resulting from the continued action of a cause that has its origin or motive at work or in the work environment". it is reported that in Mexico the occupational diseases have increased. thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the manifestations in the health of female workers in four different work activities and its association with socio-demographic and labor variables, in the Guadalajara City, Mexico. the study design is cross-sectional and analytical. the participant population was made up of 486 women; it includes traffic officers, physicians, congress workers and public transport workers. a single questionnaire about socio-demographic, health and labor was applied. in general, the obtained data reported the presence of disease; however, only the variables of age and have a second job were associated with musculoskeletal and psychological diseases. it would be appropriate to perform further studies and to continue investigating more closely the risk factors to which workers are exposed every day and determine both the damage to health as the generation of intervention proposals, especially those related to prevention.

el objetivo del estudio fue explorar las dimensiones conceptuales de calidad de vida en futuros p... more el objetivo del estudio fue explorar las dimensiones conceptuales de calidad de vida en futuros profesionales de la psicología, desde una perspectiva cultural. el diseño del estudio fue transversal exploratorio con niveles de análisis descriptivo y correlacional. se utilizaron las técnicas de listados libres y el sorteo de montones. el análisis se procesó con el paquete antHropaC v. 4.1. resultados: se obtuvo un alto consenso cultural (10.44 en hombres y 7.72 en mujeres). se asoció a la idea de bienestar, salud mental y espiritualidad. requiere de una base de recursos materiales, trabajo y educación, a fin de lograr comodidad y felicidad. Some of these pathologies are characterized by low concentrations of O2 in the blood, resulting in cyanosis. There is evidence that erythrocytes express active and functional eNOS, which catalyzes the production of nitric oxide (NO). NO activity in erythrocytes appears to include the regulation of membrane deformability and inhibition of platelet activation; however, the activities of eNOS, NO export to the vasculature and the relative contribution of erythrocytes to the active NO pool in circulation, have not yet been explored in detail. El propósito de este estudio es analizar la progresiva desvinculación de los jóvenes escolares... more El propósito de este estudio es analizar la progresiva desvinculación de los jóvenes escolares con la actividad físico-deportiva desde la Teoría de la Autodeterminación (Deci y Ryan, 1985, 1991). La muestra estuvo formada por 705 estudiantes, con edades comprendidas entre los 10 y los 14 años (329 de Educación Primaria, y 376 de Educación Secundaria, de una media de edad de 12.7 años). Se realizaron tres MANOVAs 2 (género) _ 2 (etapas educativas), que revelaron que los estudiantes de Educación Primaria mostraron un perfil más adaptativo que los de Educación Secundaria. La Teoría de la Autodeterminación predice que estos resultados son la consecuencia de factores sociales, por lo que esta investigación apunta a factores que son claves y que deberían ser tenidos en cuenta en las sesiones de educación física, como el aprendizaje colaborativo, el clima de clase orientado a la mejora personal y la implicación de los estudiantes en la toma de decisiones.

Palladium is an efficient monoatomic catalyst for the electrochemical oxidation of polyalcohols i... more Palladium is an efficient monoatomic catalyst for the electrochemical oxidation of polyalcohols in alkaline media, yet the oxidation rate is still slow compared to other smaller molecules. In order to improve the oxidation rate, Ni was mixed with Pd for synthesis of PdNi/C nanoparticles. The oxidation rates of ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol (PG), and glycerol (G) on Pd/C were compared to the oxidation rates on Pd 16 Ni 84 /C, Pd 53 Ni 47 /C, and Pd 68 Ni 32 /C. The oxidation rate of PG was enhanced by the presence of Ni as much as 14 times (Pd 53 Ni 47 / C). The oxidation rate of EG was enhanced 2.3 times on Pd 68 Ni 32 /C, and G was improved 2.9 times on Pd 53 Ni 47 /C. A significant shift in d-band center was also observed (as high as + 0.11 eV in Pd 53 Ni 47 /C) on each PdNi/C catalyst compared to that of Pd/C due to the presence of Ni. The correlation between increased oxidation rate and shift in d-band center is indicative of the presence of an electronic effect, which is particularly strong for PG.

To ensure the safety of human transplant recipients, it will be essential to understand both the spectrum of infectious agents in donor pigs and their potential to be transmitted to immunocompromised transplant recipients. Equally important will be the development of new highly sensitive diagnostic methods for use in the detection of these agents in donor animals and for the monitoring of transplant recipients. In 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandated that all enriched cereal grain products be fortified with folic acid; however, corn masa flour (CMF), used to make many corn products that are a diet staple of many Hispanic groups, was not included under this regulation. In 2006, a Working Group began a collaboration to address this disparity by pursuing a petition to FDA to allow folic acid to be added voluntarily to CMF. The petition process was a monumental effort that required collaboration and commitment by partners representing the affected population, manufacturers, scientists, and others.
