Diversity and distribution study of Stomatopoda has been carried out in selected locations of Gul... more Diversity and distribution study of Stomatopoda has been carried out in selected locations of Gulf of Kachchh from 2014 to 2020. Four species belonging to four genera in two families were recorded from Gulf of Kachchh, Gujarat. Carinosquilla multicarinata (White, 1848) was recorded for the first time from the west coast of India. Cloridina ichneumon (Fabricius, 1798) was recorded for the first time from Gujarat coast. Gonodactylellus demanii (Henderson, 1893) was reported after 50 years from Gulf of Kachchh, Gujarat, and Gonodactylus smithii Pocock, 1893 is a commonly occurring species in the intertidal zone of the Gulf of Kachchh. Species are described and illustrated with key characters and distributional status in Gulf of Kachchh. An annotated checklist of nine species of Stomatopoda occurring in Gujarat is presented.

Mantis shrimps are the most significant predators in the shallow waters and intertidal regions of... more Mantis shrimps are the most significant predators in the shallow waters and intertidal regions of tropical and subtropical marine ecosystems and they are integral components of the food chain. Additionally, mantis shrimps are sensitive to environmental pollutants and indicate poor environmental conditions through their ecological behaviour. As a fisheries species, they hold immense socioeconomic importance for several countries. In this study, we document three species of stomatopods found in the waters of Gujarat, India. Notably, Manningia arabica (Manning, 1990), which is rare and endemic to the Arabian Sea, is reported for the first time in Indian waters. Furthermore, Alimopsis supplex (Wood-Mason, 1875) and Oratosquillina quinquedentata (Brooks, 1886) are also documented for the first time in the waters of Gujarat. The study includes taxonomic descriptions, habitat characteristics, and geographical distribution information for each of these species.

B. Sowerby I, 1828) reported for the first time from Gujarat, India. This species was found in association with soft coral (Dendronephthya sp.) in lower intertidal zone of Sikka coast. A morphological description with key characters, illustrations and geographical distribution of present species are given.

A Callichiridae ghost shrimp species Corallianassa coutierei (Nobili, 1904) is recorded and descr... more A Callichiridae ghost shrimp species Corallianassa coutierei (Nobili, 1904) is recorded and described here for the first time from the Indian waters. Formerly, five species under the family Callichiridae were recorded from different coastal waters of India. In addition, C. coutierei was infested with several copepods. Additional description of C. coutierei with key characters and distribution status is given for this species. A comprehensive checklist of the infraorder Axiidea is prepared based on previous records from Indian waters.

J. flavoanulatus was earlier reported from few localities in the Indo-Pacific region. The present record of this species from Goose reef extends its distribution to Gulf of Kachchh, Gujarat. J. flavoanulatus was found rare and sparsely distributed in the undisturbed lower intertidal zone of Goose reef. J. toyamensis was earlier described from the Gujarat coast during 1909 as Antiopella indica. After a century, this species is redescribed here. Gujarat coastline consist 28 % sandy beach, 21 % rocky coast, 29 % muddy flats, 22 % marshy coast. Cate, 1973) for the first time from west coast of India. This species sparsely distributed in premises of coral reef zone at lower intertidal zone of Sikka, Gujarat. Formerly, M. tinctilis has so far been reported only from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Morphological shell characters such as shell description, habitat, geographical distribution, illustrations and affinities with similar species is discussed here.

Sampling was done at every month during July 2018 to February 2019. Total 32 species from 6 orders, 13 families and 22 genera were recorded during the present study. Cypriniformes was the dominant order in term of species diversity (12 species) followed by Siluriformes (10 species), Perciformes (6 species) and Synbranchiformes (2 species) and Osteoglossiformes and Beloniformes were represented by 1 species each. Dominant families were Cyprinidae (12species) followed by Bagridae (4 species), Siluridae and Channidae (3 species), Mastacembelidae (2 species), 1 species of Claridae, Heteropneustidae, Schilbeidae, Cichlidae, Ambassidae, Gobiidae, Belonidae and Notopteridae families. Biological aspects of threadfin bream Nemipterus japonicus (Bloch 1791) along coast of Saurastra, Gujarat

Biological study of Nemipterus japonicus were carried out of to the species landed at Veraval lan... more Biological study of Nemipterus japonicus were carried out of to the species landed at Veraval landing center during the period of August 2017 to March-2018. During the study N. japonicus were ranged from 79 to 445 mm (TL) in length and 5-512 gm in weight. Study of length weight relationship derived constants a=0.000207 and b=2.43 for male and a=0.000102 and b=2.54 for female respectively. The overall sex ratio was 1:1.08 shows dominancy of female in population. N. japonicus spawned throughout the year with the peak in December and January. Fifty percent of the individuals of N. japonicus in the population attained sexual maturity as their body measured a total length of 240 mm. The last known record of this species from the Pulicat Lake of Bay of Bengal, India. The species is rare in the Indian waters. A single specimen was observed in seaweed (Spatoglossum asperum) at 0.5-meter depth. Description, Geographic location and Photographs of live specimen are given.
