It draws on six years of interdisciplinary work on several longitudinal and cross-sectional research studies on voluntary action that have used both iterations of the MO Project (1937-1955; and 1981 to present day). It focusses on three key issues: the extent to which the MO panels are representative; the changing nature of MO writers’ contributions over time and; reflections on how qualitative secondary data analysis always involves the creation of new data.
