This paper examines the ontological implications of artificial intelligence and contemporary ener... more This paper examines the ontological implications of artificial intelligence and contemporary energy systems through Martin Heidegger's philosophy of technology. Drawing primarily on The Question Concerning Technology (1977) and Being and Time (1962), it is argued that both AI and modern energy infrastructure exemplify what Heidegger termed Gestell (enframing)-a mode of revealing that, within this framework, may be understood as reducing all entities, including human beings, to Bestand (standing-reserve) available for optimisation and exploitation. The paper demonstrates that AI arguably extends calculative thinking into domains previously characterised by interpretive understanding, transforming human intelligence itself into a resource to be mined and replicated. Similarly, while renewable energy systems are often presented as alternatives to fossil fuel extraction, they may remain embedded within the same technological ordering that challenges nature to yield measurable, storable power. This analysis engages critically with secondary literature from Feenberg, Ihde, Dreyfus, Stiegler, Ellul, Crawford, and Zuboff, contextualising Heidegger's concerns within debates about algorithmic governance, large language models, and the global energy transition from 2019 to 2026. The paper concludes by exploring Heidegger's notion of Gelassenheit (releasement) and the possibility of alternative modes of revealing that might preserve authentic human existence against the totalising logic of enframing.

Beginning with the question "What is a number?", I explore competing accounts of mathematical objects-Platonist, empiricist, and formalist-and their respective strengths and difficulties. The article argues that geometry, far from being reducible to arithmetic, presents distinctive epistemological challenges that motivated Kant's appeal to intuition and continue to resist purely logicist or empiricist treatments. I conclude by suggesting that the persistence of these problems indicates the irreducibility of mathematical cognition to either pure logic or sensory experience alone.
