    As AI infrastructure scales, most of the strain now falls on the connections between chips rather than the chips themselves: copper simply can't carry that much data at a power cost anyone can afford anymore. Drumbeat Capital's 2026 Deep Tech Report points to one answer to that inside a single rack: packaging the optical engine directly onto the compute silicon, a shift the report notes is already moving from research into early production. The same pressure shows up one layer further out too, in the scale-across links between racks and between data centers, built for distance, now being asked to carry AI-scale bandwidth instead. That's the layer our photonic circuits operate in: real-time monitoring and signal management built for higher capacity and simplified infrastructure, already shipping into that market rather than sitting in a research pipeline. Shipping inside the AI infrastructure customers are already building is a harder test than performing well in a lab: it's the one that actually decides whether any of this reaches production.     Optical channel monitoring sounds like a background function, until a channel drifts in a live DWDM network and nobody notices until it's already affecting traffic. That's the problem our nanoOCM is built to solve: real-time visibility into every channel, in a chip-scale footprint. We've already shown that four monitoring channels fit in the same space as one. The next step is bringing this 4-port capability into a standard QSFP package. Because our underlying nanoOCM technology is the smallest on the market, we are uniquely able to fit a flex-grid channel monitor into a pluggable form factor. Now, we have extended that plug-and-play functionality from a single-port module to a full four-port solution. A QSFP package means no new sockets, no redesigned line cards, and no dedicated integration projects. Because it's MSA-compliant, it slots directly into network equipment already in the field. Getting to "just plug it in" is usually the harder engineering problem, not the easier one. Four ports in one module also means one object doing the monitoring job that used to take four—resulting in less hardware, less cabling, and less rack space for the same total visibility. That's what PhotonPath's nanoOCM is built for: an ultra-compact Optical Channel Monitor for high-resolution spectral analysis in DWDM networks.     Optical systems keep being asked to do more with less space. In applications like AI data centers, that means higher density of optical functions packed into every new generation of hardware. In telecom networks, it means more channels and more bandwidth without more rack space. Either way, traditional architectures reliant on discrete building blocks and optical components coupled together have hit a physical wall. Oxyn is built to close the gap: PhotonPath’s proprietary integrated photonics platform condenses an entire assembly of discrete optical components and functions into a single, high-performance chip. Fewer parts sounds like a size story, and it is one.     A PhotonPath Town Hall is when the whole team gets in one room to see where the business is heading, talk through what's moving in the market and step back to look at what we're building together. Our latest quarterly session covered company progress, market developments and the next steps on our roadmap. We also ran a team retrospective, an honest look at what's working and where we can do better. And we were glad to welcome Maddalena Binda to the team. Welcome aboard, Maddalena!     So true!!

    When we look for someone to build an operations and production function, it’s easy to focus on the obvious: > NPI experience. > Manufacturing background. > Supply chain expertise. All necessary.   But what really defines success in roles like this is rarely written explicitly in the job description. A few things we’re actually looking for at PhotonPath even if we don’t always say them directly: 1. The ability to build from ambiguity Specially when there is no “system” to optimize yet, and when there are prototypes, partial processes, and many open questions. You need to be comfortable designing the system while operating inside it. 2. Judgment over process Processes matter, especially in telecom-grade environments. But early on, knowing when not to over-engineer is just as important. Good operators don’t just follow frameworks. They apply them selectively. 3. Thinking in systems, not functions Production is not just manufacturing. It’s the interaction between design, suppliers, yield, cost, reliability, and customer expectations. You need to see how small decisions propagate across the system. 4. Ownership without boundaries This is not a role where responsibilities are neatly defined. If something breaks between R&D and manufacturing, it’s your problem, even if it’s “not your area”. That mindset is what turns execution into scale. 5. Comfort being close to reality Spreadsheets don’t build hardware. Conversations with suppliers, issues on the line, unexpected failures: that’s where most of the learning happens. You need to be comfortable there.   In deep tech, moving from prototype to production is not a linear step. It’s a phase where many companies slow down, or break. The difference is rarely just technical. It’s how people handle complexity, uncertainty, and trade-offs.   PS: And here’s a glimpse of the team that actually operates this way: ownership, judgment, and a strong sense of responsibility in practice.
