About the Role

We are looking for a Material Laboratory Coordinator to join our Research & Development team at our Innovation Centre in Cinisello Balsamo (Milan).


The successful candidate will lead the HQ Materials Laboratory, coordinating daily operations and providing functional support to subsidiary laboratories across Prometeon’s manufacturing sites.

This role is ideal for professionals with experience in rubber and elastomeric materials testing, laboratory management, and people leadership. The position requires a strong execution-oriented mindset, a focus on quality and continuous improvement, and the ability to drive laboratory excellence in a dynamic industrial environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations: Take direct responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of all activities within the HQ Materials Laboratory, ensuring efficiency, quality, and timely delivery of testing results.
  • People Management: Lead, motivate and develop the laboratory team, promoting a collaborative and excellence-driven culture while strengthening team capabilities and optimizing internal processes.
  • Analysis & R&D: Analyze test results, prepare technical reports, and work closely with R&D teams to investigate material or process-related issues and support the development of effective solutions.
  • Innovation & Testing: Innovation & Testing: Develop and validate new testing methodologies, both autonomously or in collaboration with R&D teams.
  • Calibration & Maintenance: Ensure the proper calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment and testing instruments.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure that all laboratory activities comply with relevant international standards (e.g. ASTM, ISO) and automotive industry requirements (IATF 16949), while supporting the laboratory's ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation roadmap.
  • Auditing: Actively participate in and support the preparation of internal and external quality, compliance, and accreditation audits.
  • Inter-Laboratory Coordination: Coordinate functional activities across subsidiary laboratories, promoting alignment of testing methodologies. Monitoring the performance workflow optimization, and support for local investment initiatives.


Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 5 years of experience within a materials testing laboratory, preferably focused on rubber compounds, elastomers, or polymer-based materials.
  • Solid knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and experience working in accredited or accreditation-oriented laboratory environments.
  • Proven experience in laboratory coordination, team supervision, or technical leadership roles.
  • Strong leadership, people management, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical and data-driven mindset, with a structured approach to problem solving and execution.
  • Good knowledge of English (minimum B1 level).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic R&D and industrial environment, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.


Nice to Have

  • Previous experience in the tyre, rubber, or elastomer industry.
  • Knowledge of rubber rheology and material characterization techniques.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience supporting laboratory accreditation projects or continuous improvement programs.
