July 26th is International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem! For Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), protecting the ocean also means protecting the coastal environments that sustain it. Mangroves play a crucial role in preserving marine biodiversity, strengthening shorelines, and mitigating climate change. As powerful "blue carbon" ecosystems, they absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide while also buffering coastal communities from erosion, storm surges, and rising sea levels. Found in tropical and subtropical brackish waters, mangroves create rich habitats for diverse species. Yet these ecosystems continue to face pressure from deforestation and development. To help address this challenge, MOL is participating in a blue carbon initiative in Indonesia together with a partner company. The project aims to restore and conserve approximately 23,500 hectares of mangroves, with the potential to reduce atmospheric CO₂ by around 11 million tons. In addition to climate mitigation, the initiative enhances coastal resilience, improves water and soil quality, and supports local communities. As a company closely connected to the ocean, MOL remains committed to contributing to environmental preservation through tangible, long-term actions. 𝐌𝐎𝐋 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞 On July 8, MOL’s Chemical Logistics Business Headquarters held a cross-business strategy meeting in Singapore, bringing together leaders across the chemical tanker, product tanker, methanol tanker and tank terminal businesses. The meeting brought together approximately 25 executives, department heads, and management team members from across the group, including MOL Chemical Tankers (MOLCT), LBC Tank Terminals, MOL Energia and MOL Southeast Asia and Oceania. Participants shared a comprehensive view of the business portfolio, deepened mutual understanding of the operations of each business, and discussed future strategies and opportunities for collaboration. By connecting expertise across shipping and terminal operations, we continue to explore new ways to create value for our customers and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable global supply chain. Wind Challenger: Reducing Emissions in LNG Transport As LNG demand grows, improving the environmental performance of LNG transport becomes increasingly important. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is advancing this effort through the Wind Challenger, a hard sail wind-assisted propulsion system designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. Installed on next-generation vessels, Wind Challenger harnesses wind power to supplement engine propulsion, enhancing energy efficiency during voyages. By combining LNG as a lower-carbon fuel with wind-assisted technology, MOL is further reducing emissions across its LNG carrier fleet. Through innovations like Wind Challenger, MOL is strengthening the sustainability of LNG transport while expanding its role across the broader LNG value chain.

From touring the bridge and crew accommodations to watching vehicles being carefully loaded into the cargo holds, visitors gained a deeper understanding of the important role shipping plays in supporting global logistics. Some of the comments that stood out included: 💬“I didn’t know cars were transported by ship.” 💬“I learned how ships are connected to our everyday lives.” 💬“Jobs related to the sea are really cool.” In addition to the vessel tour, visitors enjoyed hands-on activities including a ship-handling simulator, quizzes and games about shipping, and talk sessions with active seafarers who shared their experiences working at sea. The event was supported by approximately 260 MOL Group employees, making it not only a valuable learning opportunity for visitors, but also a meaningful occasion for our colleagues and their families to reflect on the social significance of the work we do every day. We at MOL believe that helping future generations understand the importance of the ocean, shipping, and maritime careers is an investment in a more sustainable future.
