Longitudinal data were utilized to investigate the average development of generativity between the ages of 42 and 61 as well as individual differences in terms of its development. The study used data from the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS) (initial N = 369). The data consisted of 291 individuals whose generativity scores, measured using the Generativity Scale, were available at age 42, 50, or 61. Rasch analysis was utilized to form a generativity measure. The development of generativity between the measurements was investigated in women and men using Bland–Altman plots and the latent change score model. Furthermore, the change between ages 42 and 50 predicted the change occurring between ages 50 and 61. The more positive the baseline value or the earlier occurring change, the more negative the subsequent change. To conclude, despite the mean-level generativity decreases during middle and late adulthood, there was variance across individuals of the same age, who were followed for nearly two decades. The study emphasizes the importance of investigating individual differences in the development of generativity in adulthood.

Liittyminen ja yhteenkuuluvuus toisiin on ihmisen keskeinen perustarve, ja tässä katsausartikkelissa jäsennämme niitä eri näkökulmia, joita eri tieteenalat ja tarkastelutavat tarjoavat sosiaalisen hyvinvoinnin ymmärtämiseksi. Sosiaalinen hyvinvointi rakentuu ja muovautuu koko elämän ajan yksilön vuorovaikutuksessa ryhmänsä, yhteisöjensä ja yhteiskunnan kanssa. Yksilöiden välisten erojen lisäksi myös yhteiskunnat eroavat keskimääräisestä hyvinvoinnistaan, samoin eri väestöryhmät ja yhteisöt yhteiskunnan sisällä. Sosiaalista hyvinvointia voidaankin arvioida myös globaalista näkökulmasta kansakunnan, etnisyyden ja väestön suhteellisena taloudellisena ja kulttuurisena asemana. Joulukuussa 2016 erityisopetuksen uranuurtaja, kasvatustieteen tohtori (h.c.) Onerva Mäki täytti ... more Joulukuussa 2016 erityisopetuksen uranuurtaja, kasvatustieteen tohtori (h.c.) Onerva Mäki täytti 90 vuotta. Syntymäpäivänä järjestettiin juhlaseminaari, jonka teemana oli ”Erityisiä oppilaita, erilaista opetusta – yhteistä kehitystä kaiken aikaa”. Seminaarissa käytiin läpi erityisopetuksen historiaa ja kehitystä 1950-luvun alusta lähtien, jolloin vammaisten lasten kuntoutus ja opetus olivat Suomessa monelta osin vasta alullaan, ja jolloin Mäki aloitti työnsä erityisopetuksen parissa. Siitä lähtien hän on toiminut keskeisellä näköalapaikalla näkemässä ja kokemassa eri kehitysvaiheita sekä vaikuttamassa moniin muutoksiin. Agora Centerissä nämä henkilöt ovat projektisih-teerit Raili Lindberg, Virva Nissinen, Eeva Partanen, Anu Penttilä sekä kehittä-mispäällikkö Päivi Fadjukoff. Tämä rautainen naisjoukko muodostaa tiimin, jon-ka työhön kuuluu koordinoida talon erilaisten tutkimusprojektien joukkoa. He toimivat linkkinä yliopiston hallinnon ja erilaisten hankkeiden välillä, sekä myös yliopiston edustajina yhteydessä esimerkiksi hankkeiden rahoittajiin. Haastavassa työssä tiimityö on tärkeää ja työtoverien avun merkitys korostuu. Tämä tiimi tietää sen: "täällä autetaan toista".

In line with Erikson's suggestions, increasing empirical evidence substantiates that considerable... more In line with Erikson's suggestions, increasing empirical evidence substantiates that considerable identity development takes place over the course of adulthood. What then does identity development during adulthood entail? The key findings of adult identity formation from four culturally different countries, and the challenges of analyzing the complex concept of identity are discussed. Although a wide array of identity measures are available, they have not been sufficiently validated for use with middle-aged or older adults. Additionally, different measures may yield results that are not comparable across studies. More studies are needed on adult identity development in populations representing different ethnicities and living in different cultural environments.

The European project UPDATE - funded by the sixth research framework programme of the European Un... more The European project UPDATE - funded by the sixth research framework programme of the European Union - has set itself the task to develop new concepts and measures that help to improve the technology education for students in Europe. An important issue of UPDATE project is to raise attention for the importance of early childhood education for girls and boys. To achieve this goal UPDATE provides a gendersensitive developmental approach for technology education. These central aspects for UPDATE are presented in Päivi Fadjukoff’s introductory article "Updating technology education from the start".
