Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena has assumed duties as Director General (CEO) of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, marking a decisive shift from non-executive oversight to direct executive leadership. With over 23 years of distinguished public service as a special grade officer of the Sri Lankan Administrative Service, Dr. Jayawardena brings deep expertise in policy formulation, large-scale project management, and public administration—anchored by more than two decades of transformative work in Sri Lanka's power and energy sector. “Stepping into the role of director general means moving from high-level governance to direct, decisive execution. Our immediate focus will be on leveraging executive agility to streamline internal processes, eliminate friction for global investors, and restore the BOI's legacy as a premier #economic engine.” As Director General, Dr. Jayawardena now holds the vested executive powers to cut through bureaucratic inertia, optimize investor relations, and position Sri Lanka as a competitive investment hub—building a digitally enabled, #sustainable, Industry 4.0-ready.

BOI welcomes its new chairman, Duminda Hulangamuwa, a chartered accountant with over four decades of experience in finance, tax, audit, and public policy. Mr. Hulangamuwa joins BOI after serving as country managing partner of EY Sri Lanka & Maldives and continues to serve as honorary senior economic adviser to the president, representing Sri Lanka in high-level engagements with the World Bank and the IMF. He is also the former chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. In his first remarks to staff, the Chairman pledged to restore BOI's authority and rebuild it into a genuine one-stop shop for investors, part of a renewed push to close Sri Lanka's trade deficit and accelerate export growth.
