Last week, we got an exciting first look at something special: meet Stella Juva. 🚑☀️ The world's first solar-powered ambulance, designed and built by an inspiring team of 23 students from Solar Team Eindhoven. In under a year, the team turned an ambitious idea into a vehicle designed to bring medical care directly to remote communities. Stella Juva is equipped with tools including a mobile X-ray and ultrasound and can support services such as blood tests, health screenings and vaccinations. Its solar panels and battery power both the vehicle and its medical equipment - and on a sunny day, it can travel up to 715 km. We’re incredibly proud to support this initiative and the next generation using innovation, renewable energy and determination to address challenges that matter. This August, Stella Juva and the Solar Team will travel to Kenya to test the vehicle in practice across two field locations. Alfen and CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, have announced their collaboration to deploy 5 GWh of CATL's sodium-ion battery energy storage systems across Europe, building on an existing partnership.🔋 This initiative opens a new chapter for #BESS - accelerating large-scale adoption of sodium-ion battery storage while strengthening Europe's energy transition and renewable integration. For Alfen, it means a more diversified battery portfolio, optimised cost structure, and stronger resilience against lithium price fluctuations - increasing our competitiveness in mid-to-large scale projects. We wrapped The smarter E Europe 2026 in Munich and the themes from those days are shaping how we talk about electrification: the future is being built through integration. Highlights from the show floor: 🔋 Battery storage moved from opportunity to necessity, as solar and wind projects increasingly combine generation with storage to unlock flexibility. ⚡ Grid congestion remained a hot topic, with bidirectional charging and V2G positioning EVs as part of the solution. 🔋 We brought our #Diabolo compact substation to Munich for the first time, showing how energy infrastructure can better fit the spaces where it's deployed. 🔌 On the EV Charging side, visitors got a first look at our next-generation home charging platform, plus live demos of our latest software. One thing that's stayed with us: customers want charging infrastructure, battery storage and grid connections that work together as one system. Bart brings experience as a finance leader with a strong track record in organisational change and driving execution at listed companies. His background in the energy and infrastructure sector fits well as we continue building on our strategic transformation and our commitment to long-term growth. This follows Onno Krap stepping down as CFO. Onno played a key role in shaping Alfen's new organisational structure over the past two years. Three days at The smarter E. Hundreds of conversations. A lot of familiar faces, new connections and valuable discussions about where our industry is heading. One theme kept coming back. The market is moving beyond individual products. Customers are looking for solutions that bring together charging infrastructure, battery storage and grid connections into one system that works. We saw growing interest in integrated energy solutions, increasing project sizes and a clear focus on flexibility as grid capacity becomes more constrained. Those conversations reinforced something we’ve believed for a long time. Electrification isn’t about adding more technology. It’s about connecting the right technologies in the right way. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand, shared ideas and challenged our thinking over the past few days. Now it’s time to turn those conversations into the next projects.
