🚨 Europol, in collaboration with law enforcement authorities from nine countries, has successfully led an action against the online ecosystem of the nihilistic violent extremist network "The Com." 📌 What is "The Com"? "The Com" is a loose network of fringe online groups promoting a misanthropic and nihilistic worldview. These groups lack a unified ideology but often glorify violence, self-harm, and extremist acts. Some factions align with violent right-wing extremism and accelerationist ideologies, aiming to accelerate societal collapse through attacks and radicalisation. 🔍 During the Referral Action Days (June–July 2026), Europol and partners referred 4 340 URLs containing disturbing content, including: • Violent propaganda • Self-harm and suicide material • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) • Manuals on grooming, doxing, and swatting 💡 Social media algorithms and coded language expose young individuals to extremist content, often escalating from seemingly harmless material to violent acts. This operation strengthens cooperation with online platforms to combat terrorist content and protect vulnerable users. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eVXupeam #Terrorism

Cybercrime is getting younger, and AI is accelerating it. ⚠️ 💻 Online subcultures, specialised forums, and the rise of cybercrime-as-a-service are making it easier than ever for young people to slide into offending, often without realising the line they've crossed. Lowering that barrier to entry is one of the defining cybercrime trends of the AI era. Europol recently joined law enforcement partners from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, United States, and Australia at the 7th International Cyber Offender Prevention Network (InterCOP) Conference, hosted at INTERPOL Headquarters in Lyon on 15-16 July. 🤝 🌍 Around 100 participants from 50 countries gathered under the theme "Facilitators of Youth Cybercrime: Decoding the Threat, Upgrading Prevention", spending Day 1 unpacking the social and technical drivers behind youth cybercrime, and Day 2 focused on building effective, practical responses. Europol supports InterCOP as part of its broader effort to prevent young people from entering cybercriminal pathways and to redirect cyber talent toward legitimate, lawful careers in cybersecurity. Understanding how young people are drawn in is the first step to keeping them out. 💡 🔗 More on InterCOP: https://lnkd.in/eNn4hGMp

A coordinated operation supported by Europol has targeted an organised crime group suspected of smuggling migrants from Greece through Bulgaria and Romania towards Italy. Authorities in 🇧🇬 Bulgaria, 🇬🇷 Greece, 🇳🇱 the Netherlands and 🇷🇴 Romania arrested seven suspects and disrupted a network that allegedly organised at least 12 migrant smuggling operations between February and July 2026. Investigators uncovered a sophisticated modus operandi designed to evade law enforcement, including: 🚗 using rented vehicles obtained with genuine and forged identity documents; 🚘 registering vehicles through front companies or third parties; 🚙 using stolen vehicles; 🚛 transferring migrants from small cars to lorries for the final stage towards Italy. Europol supported the investigation by facilitating intelligence exchange and deploying a mobile office during the action day, enabling real-time operational checks and rapid investigative follow-up. The conversations shaping Europe’s security are happening in Dublin. Since yesterday, Europol is attending the Informal Justice and Home Affairs Council, where ministers and key stakeholders are discussing how to strengthen cooperation against organised crime, terrorism and other cross-border security threats. 🚨 Effective cooperation starts with a shared understanding of the threats. Our recent reports (available on europol.europa.eu) reveal that the EU's most threatening criminal networks are increasingly agile, technology-driven and operating across multiple countries, while the latest terrorism situation and trend report #TESAT highlights how online ecosystems continue to reshape the terrorist threat across Europe. 👮 This is where Europol makes the difference: connecting the dots between investigations, linking intelligence from across Europe and beyond, applying innovation, and supporting coordinated action against not only high-value targets, but the entire criminal ecosystems that enable them.
