Ultraprecision starts where the human eye stops seeing. What may look like a perfectly smooth and controlled machining process is, at a microscopic level, a complex interaction between tool, material, heat and force. In this video, Sytze de Graaf shows how invisible changes in a material’s microstructure can influence ultraprecision manufacturing processes and the functional performance of a component once it becomes part of a larger system. Together with the University of Groningen, NTS is researching how microstructure governs precision, repeatability and performance. That knowledge helps us move beyond making components that simply meet specifications, toward making outcomes consistent at the highest level of accuracy.

How do you turn a complex 3D-printed component into a production-ready industrial solution?   For SCK CEN's MYRRHA project, the answer was metal additive manufacturing, combined with a partner who could take it from concept to finished part. By using metal additive manufacturing, NTS helped produce the vacuum chamber as a single integrated structure, with cooling channels designed around functional performance rather than the limitations of conventional machining.   But this project was about more than printing.   NTS supported SCK CEN with: • DfAM guidance for reliable AM production • Metal printing • De-powdering • Heat treatment • Precision machining • Quality verification   The result: a fully finished vacuum chamber with integrated cooling channels, delivered through a controlled additive manufacturing workflow designed for repeatability and production readiness.   This is where additive manufacturing becomes truly industrial: a practical route to reliable, functional components for demanding environments.   Read the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/eGHiHuV4

At first glance, this part seems almost too simple to be remarkable: one solid piece of metal, cleanly machined and perfectly finished.   But that is exactly where the craftsmanship starts.   In reality, it consists of two separate components, machined individually using wire EDM. They are designed and manufactured to fit together so precisely that the connection appears seamless, with no correction or adjustment after the fact.   In this video, Marten Beärda, Manager NPI & Projects and Wiebren Schilstra, Wire EDM Specialist, show what it takes to achieve this level of precision.   At NTS, we control dimension, shape and straightness to micron-level accuracy. Additive manufacturing is increasingly used in serial production of high-performance components, where reliability, repeatability, and tight tolerances are critical. What defines success is not only the printing process itself, but the way parts are designed from the ground up to fully leverage its capabilities.   This shift is moving the focus away from feasibility, and toward performance-driven design choices.

Today, NTS published its 2025 annual results.   While revenues and EBITDA were lower than in 2024 due to a temporary slowdown in the semiconductor and analytical markets, NTS remained profitable and generated a strong positive cash flow.   Despite the somewhat challenging market conditions, NTS continued to invest in people, capabilities, R&D, advanced manufacturing technologies, and its international footprint.   Some key highlights: • Net revenues: €382 million • Normalized EBITDA: €30 million • Investments in R&D and capex: €19 million • Cashflow: €40 million • Solvency: 51% • 1,636 FTEs across 5 countries   The first months of 2026 show clear signs of stabilization, supported by improving market sentiment, a growing order book, and a stronger sales pipeline.   Looking ahead, NTS expects market conditions to gradually improve and revenues to grow in 2026 and 2027.   Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/e2Vsk4v4
