🚧 Milestone achieved at the Yangtzekanaal widening project The first phase of the widening of the Yangtzekanaal has been successfully completed by the contractor consortium of Hakkers B.V., De Klerk Werkendam and Van Oord This phase included the delivery of a new tugboat quay with 12 berths and shore power facilities, supported by the widening of the canal's southern side over a stretch of 500 meters. With phase one completed, work is now underway on the next stage: the construction of a 1,450-metre quay featuring 20 new inland shipping berths. This project strengthens the port's infrastructure, improves operational efficiency, and supports the transition towards more sustainable inland and maritime transport. After the project is completed, the Yangtzekanaal and therefore the access to the Maasvlakte will be ready to welcome the yet-to-be-developed next generation of container vessels safely and efficiently. #PortDevelopment #Infrastructure #Maritime #InlandShipping

🇬🇧 (🇳🇱 below) Total throughput at the port of Rotterdam rose by 0.4% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This brought total throughput to 212.0 million tonnes. The dry bulk segment rose by 1.7%. The throughput of liquid bulk also increased by 2.4%. There was a dip in throughput in the container and breakbulk segments. Container throughput fell by 0.1% TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) or 2.6% tonnes. Breakbulk fell by 1.1%. The previous six months were defined by much uncertainty. Although the port of Rotterdam continued to operate resiliently due to its scale, infrastructure and diversity of freight flows, the developments demonstrated the importance of investments in energy security, sustainable alternatives and the flexibility of supply chains. Financially, the first half of the year was stable with a net result of 144.8 million euros. De totale overslag kwam daarmee uit op 212,0 miljoen ton. Het segment droge bulk steeg met 1,7%. Ook de overslag van natte bulk nam toe met 2,4%. Een daling van de overslag was te zien in het container- en breakbulksegment. De overslag van containers in TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) nam af met 0,1% en in tonnage met 2,6%. Breakbulk daalde met 1,1%. Het afgelopen halfjaar werd gekenmerkt door veel onzekerheid. 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 Bij de aanleg van het nieuwe spooremplacement Maasvlakte Zuid hebben we onlangs een 85 meter lange leidingkoker onder het spoor ingeschoven. De film laat niet alleen deze bijzondere operatie zien, maar ook het belang van goed stakeholdermanagement. Door Locomotive Workshop Rotterdam (LWR) vroegtijdig te betrekken bij de plannen voor de buitendienststelling, konden zij hun werkzaamheden tijdig aanpassen en de impact op hun bedrijfsvoering beperken. Een mooi voorbeeld van hoe technische uitvoering én omgevingsmanagement hand in hand gaan om complexe projecten mogelijk te maken. Door een goede voorbereiding en afstemming tussen Locomotive Workshop Rotterdam B.V. (LWR), ProRail, SWIETELSKY RAIL BENELUX B.V., aannemers en Havenbedrijf Rotterdam konden de werkzaamheden binnen de beschikbare tijd worden uitgevoerd.

𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭    As part of the Memorandum of Understanding between Port of Rotterdam and Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), we were proud to facilitate a successful three-day Project Finance Workshop in Cairo.   Funded through the Shiraka Programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken), Port of Rotterdam engaged Rebel to design and deliver a tailored training programme focused on project finance for energy transition and infrastructure investments.   The programme included: 🔹 A two-day intensive training for financial experts and professionals working on specific energy transition projects. 🔹 A one-day session for management and a broader group of employees, covering the fundamentals and strategic importance of project finance.   The workshop highlighted the critical role that project finance plays in enabling sustainable investments and infrastructure development within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). For the first time in the history of the port of Rotterdam, the Harbour Master of Rotterdam is setting uniform requirements for providers of port towage services. A new permit will establish one clear quality standard within the nautical chain in Rotterdam. ⚓ 🌍🚢 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐌𝐀 𝐂𝐆𝐌 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐦 This week, the CMA CGM Notre Dame made her maiden call at the port of Rotterdam. The call marks more than the arrival of the world’s largest LNG-powered container vessel – it showcases how technology, safety, and sustainability are shaping the future of shipping. With a capacity of over 24,000 TEU, the vessel combines LNG propulsion with a fully digitalised bridge equipped with AI, augmented reality, and real-time navigation systems that support safe maneuvering, route optimisation, and improved energy efficiency. During its visit to Rotterdam, the ship was bunkered for the first time with bio-LNG produced in Europe, derived from organic waste from the agricultural and agri-food sectors.
