A while ago we have been contacted by a vessel who suffered a outraging fire in the engine room causing severe damage in several electrical systems. Crew requested us to come onboard at offshore anchorage area to make an investigation of the damage on their Praxis Automation Technology Alarm and Monitoring System. Despite the intense heat during this incident the alarm and monitoring system surprisingly still worked with heavily damaged components on its boards, that the I/O connectionboards suffered intense heat can be seen at the melted board connectors and cabling. Given the manufacturers specifications about operating temperature of their boards it is with real evidence to say that these boards will survive higher ambient temperatures than documented, which say something about the component quality on the PCB board itself (probably Praxis Automation need to adapt their datasheets as these boards will continue working until melting temperature 👍 ). As this particular vessel was sailing under contract and needed to be back in business as soon as possible we were able to arrange all new system components and other required installation material in record tempo and realized this whole operation in less than 1 week including changing all sensor wires for this particular I/O cabinet. Realized work included, sorting out and labelling I/O cables to field sensors, replacing local I/O cabinet, replacing damaged ships cables, Running and connecting new CAT6E Network cables, installing and connecting new junctionboxes, replacing other defective system devices, Wiring all new cables from sensors/junctionboxes to new I/O cabinet and final testing. We completed this project well within the scheduled timeframe, which exceeded our client's expectations. These kind of projects highlights the importancy of doing business with the right partners in this industry (who maintaining stock also in these demanding and challenging times and able to supply parts with a long lifespan) not just manufacturers but also other suppliers next to reliable forwarding agencies and custombrokers.
