⚙️ 𝗡𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲. ⚙️ During the World Cup, millions of people gather to cheer on their national teams. There are drinks 🍻, barbecues 🔥 and, in our case, plenty of orange shirts 🧡 Most of us won't spend a second thinking about the industries working quietly behind the scenes. And that's exactly the point. Behind almost everything we use every day are industrial processes designed to run safely, consistently and often around the clock. The best systems are usually the ones nobody notices, because they simply do what they're supposed to do. 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙖𝙮. 𝙔𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧. That's one of the realities that makes industrial decarbonisation so interesting. New technologies don't just need to reduce emissions. They need to deliver the same reliability that industries, supply chains and society have come to depend on. Because in industry, reliability isn't a bonus feature. It's the starting point. 🌍 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 🌍 A few weeks ago, Mathijs Mientjes and Leon Thijs joined the MeCRE Conference, bringing together researchers, engineers and industry representatives working on metal-enabled renewable energy systems. Leon took part in a panel discussion alongside Prof. Jeff Bergthorson (McGill University), XiaoCheng Mi (Technische Universiteit Eindhoven) and Marius Schmidt (Technische Universität Darmstadt), exploring a topic that becomes increasingly relevant as technologies mature: how do we bridge the gap between academia and industry? Not every answer was found during the discussion 😄 but that's exactly what makes gatherings like these valuable. They bring together the people developing the science, building the technology and working towards real-world implementation. 🔥 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 "𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁." 🔥 At least, not in the way most people imagine it. Industrial heat is not a single, one challenge. It's hundreds of different challenges, each with their own requirements, constraints and realities. 🕘 Some processes can stop and start. Others run 24/7. ♨️ Some require a few hundred degrees. Others operate at temperatures high enough to reshape materials. 🏭 Some facilities can adapt relatively quickly. Others are built around assets expected to operate for decades to come. And that's what makes industrial heat so fascinating. Because every process, site and industry brings a slightly different puzzle to solve 🧩 Perhaps that's also why there is so much innovation happening in this space right now.
