𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗶 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗡𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀. Wind energy is growing rapidly across Europe. At the same time, it is creating a new waste challenge. While around 90% of a wind turbine can be recycled, its composite blades remain a complex residual material. That is why, since 2025, we have been working with TNO and other partners through the CIRCLE4WIN project to develop a high-quality recycling solution for wind turbine blades. We are exploring solutions for the pre-treatment of wind turbine blades, further scaling up thermolysis recycling, and developing an industrial application so that recovered raw materials can be given a new life. The coming years will focus on further validation, product testing and life-cycle assessments. Large-scale implementation will take time, but the initial results show that high-quality recycling of wind turbine blades is moving closer. Consumers say they want more recycled materials. Companies are putting more sustainability information on packaging. Yet the connection between the two is far from straightforward. New findings from the 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗻, conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Renewi, show that consumers in both Belgium and the Netherlands expect companies to increase their use of recycled materials. At the same time, trust in recycling labels remains limited, and a simple “100% recycled bottle” claim did not increase purchase intention in a product test. As new EU packaging rules are introduced, the findings raise an uncomfortable question: if consumers do not fully trust green claims, how do we make circular choices easier and more attractive? 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. This week, we were once again guests at Delft University of Technology. Dr Ir Somi Lotfi, Business Development Manager, and Dr Ir Shizhe Zhang, Project Manager R&D, offered an insight into the world of circular concrete and circular construction materials. Talking about innovation is one thing. It only becomes truly tangible when students and researchers see what is happening in practice. That is why we value staying connected with universities. The questions coming from the academic world keep us sharp. At the same time, we can show where the real challenges lie when trying to apply circular solutions at scale. 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝟯𝗗 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹. Together with Van Straten Medical, O&M Halyard Europe and GreenCycl, we have introduced a new circular solution for used sterilisation wraps from hospitals. Instead of being incinerated after a single use, this material is now processed into GO 3D filament, suitable for technical 3D printing applications. Once again, this initiative shows what’s possible when the entire chain works together, from producer to recycler: lower CO₂ emissions and and smarter preservation of resources in healthcare. 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. The new procurement and purchasing guidelines within the Dutch Concrete Agreement provide a clear framework for structurally embedding circularity in tenders and helping to drive the market forward. Circular demolition, high-quality processing and reuse are now, for the first time, brought together as one coherent approach. Our approach, the five levels of value creation, has been incorporated into the guidelines and is now used as a practical framework.
