Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting the EMPHA General Assembly in Weiherhammer together with BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagen GmbH. It was great to see so many people from the Honeycomb industry come together, sharing knowledge, discussing developments, and looking ahead at where the market is going. A big thank you to all participants, speakers, and the EMPHA team for their contributions and open discussions. Also, a special thanks to everyone involved behind the scenes who helped make this event run smoothly. Looking forward to continuing these discussions and seeing what the next steps for honeycomb will bring. Recently, we had our annual BBQ to celebrate together as a team. A great moment to catch up, relax, and enjoy the informal side of our work. At the same time, it was also the right moment to say goodbye to two valued colleagues who are now retiring: Henk and Wim. Henk has been with us since September 1979, contributing for many years as foreman in machining, welding, and quality control. Wim joined in May 1989 and has worked as welder, metalworker, and assembler. Combined, they represent decades of craftsmanship, dedication, and experience. During the BBQ, we took the opportunity to thank both Henk and Wim personally for everything they have contributed and to wish them all the best for this next chapter. #UniversalCorrugated #Teamwork #BBQ #Retirement

Commissioning a machine on site means long days, focus, and being away from home. Earlier this week, our team was in the middle of a commissioning abroad during King’s Day. Even though they weren’t in the Netherlands, they still found a way to celebrate by showing up in orange. A small nod to a Dutch tradition, but a great example of team spirit and motivation on site. It’s a simple gesture, but it says a lot about the people doing the work. Did you know that paper can be recycled up to 5–7 times? In Europe, over 56 million tons of paper are recycled each year, 2.5 millions in the Netherlands alone, making it one of the most successfully recycled materials. As the EU moves to reduce single-use plastics, including bans on materials like expanded polystyrene (EPS), paper is an important alternative. Choosing paper over plastic is an impactful step toward a more sustainable future. In my role at Universal Corrugated, I am proud to be part of this important transition! For those wondering: no, I haven’t made a sudden career move in the world of packaging and paper value chain: in the Netherlands, volunteering can take a very practical form, like collecting waste paper, a simple initiative that supports local charities and, in this case, schools.

The past six months we’ve had Efekan Mermer with us as a Mechanical Engineering intern, and it’s been a pleasure working together.   Efekan is currently in his 4th year of HBO Mechatronics at Saxion in Enschede, and during his internship he really showed what he’s capable of. He worked on several interesting topics such as the folding unit and the development of a new drive system.   Efekan was actively involved and always eager to learn more. What stood out was his attitude and curiosity. He picked things up quickly, asked the right questions, and wasn’t afraid to take responsibility. Over the course of his internship, we saw him grow both technically and professionally.   Thanks for your hard work and commitment, Efekan Mermer. We would like to take a moment to highlight our colleague Esther Laarman, who has been part of our team for nearly two years as an Administrative Assistant.    She plays an essential role in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Her eye for detail, reliability, and positive attitude make a real difference every single day.  On top of that, she somehow manages to keep all of the guys in line, which, frankly, might be her toughest job of all!   It’s always great to work with people who bring both professionalism and a friendly spirit to the job, and Esther does exactly that.
