  • Every gift tells a story. But at Heifer International, its greatest impact begins after it is shared. For more than 80 years, Passing on the Gift® has been more than a tradition, it has been a promise that opportunity should never end with one family. It is a cycle where one act of generosity creates another, strengthening livelihoods, building resilience, and empowering communities for generations. In Nepal, that promise has been carried forward since the Baruwa Goat Raising Project began in Chitwan in 1993 with just 25 women. Today, the goats from that first project have been passed on to the 19th generation, a powerful reminder of the enduring power of trust, community, and shared opportunity. One of those carrying this legacy forward is Saraswati Timalsina, who recently passed on the 19th batch of goats. Her journey began in a self-help group where women came together to save, learn, and support one another. Reflecting on Passing on the Gift®, she shared: “The gift we received was never meant to stop with us. By passing it on, we ensure that the change continues, that every family can taste the same security and opportunity we now have.” Her story reminds us that true transformation is never transactional, it is relational. It happens when people are trusted with opportunity, when communities invest in one another, and when each generation chooses to pass hope forward. Today, that same spirit lives on in new ways. Together with farmers, women, and young entrepreneurs, we are advancing climate-smart agriculture, regenerative farming, enterprise development, and resilient local economies. Yet the principle remains unchanged: lasting change grows when opportunity is shared. Because every gift is more than a contribution. It is the beginning of a story, one that multiplies across families, communities, and generations. • Women play a crucial role in growing food, caring for the environment, and supporting their households but globally, they own less than 20% of land. Even though 164 countries legally recognize women’s right to access, own, and control land, only 52 fully guarantee these rights in practice. Discriminatory laws, cultural norms, and limited resources often prevent women from owning land or controlling quality plots, keeping them out of important decisions and economic opportunities. Securing land rights for women is not just about fairness, it strengthens families, communities, and helps build more resilient and sustainable systems. Supporting rural women and promoting equality starts with recognizing their right to own and control land. #IYWF #YearOfTheWomanFarmer #LandOwnership #FoodSecurity #WomenInAgriculture #SustainableDevelopment

  • Heifer Nepal conducted a 3-day Participatory Video and Storytelling Training in Ghorahi, Dang for farmers and agriculture technicians to build skills in capturing, editing, and sharing their own stories. The training focused on practical tools like storyboarding and video production to help participants promote their products and connect with wider audiences. This initiative reflects a broader approach of working with farmers, not just for them, strengthening their skills, confidence, and independence. By using technology and storytelling, farmers, especially women and youth can take on more active roles, access opportunities, and share their voices. It’s part of a long-term effort to build stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable farming systems where communities lead their own growth and future. #IYWF #YearOfTheWomanFarmer #WomenInAgriculture #YouthInAgriculture #AgInnovation #Capacitybuilding

Today’s challenge is to build a Virtual Pet, a Tamagotchi-style companion that becomes hungry, bored and sleepy over time - and reacts to how well you care for it. Ask AI to create a minimalist single-page web app with a pet name, animated emoji face, and Hunger, Happiness and Energy bars that decrease over time. Add Feed, Play and Sleep buttons, changing moods, and localStorage so your pet remembers its progress. 💡 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Write your feature list before prompting AI, so it can understand what you need and build it clearly in one pass. Once your pet works, customise it with coins, different pet choices, an age counter, animations, random events or a mini reaction game. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐞𝐭? Introduce it with its name, photo and personality. Post it alongside your Day 1 Digital Business Card to show how far you have come, use the challenge hashtags and tag someone who should start their own seven-day streak. • When Stories Speak for the River, Communities Listen. On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the street drama "Bahaav" (The Flow/Flood) brought the realities of climate change to life in Gadhimai Municipality, Rautahat and Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli under the BAGAR Project. Through the power of art, music, and local storytelling, Bahaav reflected the lived experiences of communities along the Bagmati River, shedding light on the growing impacts of floods, droughts, riverbank erosion, pollution, and the loss of fertile land and livelihoods. The performance reminded us that true resilience extends beyond infrastructure. Protecting people and nature requires nature-based solutions, ecosystem restoration, sustainable land-use planning, and climate-resilient agriculture. By bringing together local communities, artists, government representatives, and community leaders, Bahaav sparked meaningful conversations and inspired collective action toward a safer, greener, and more climate-resilient future. Together, we can turn awareness into action and resilience into reality. Watch the full video below! • We are proud to celebrate the global recognition of Dr. Dilip Bhandari, Senior Director of Programs at Heifer International, who was recently honored with the 2026 AVMA Global Veterinary Service Award. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions to advancing veterinary medicine and strengthening global collaboration in animal health. It reflects Dr. Bhandari's decades-long commitment to building resilient livestock systems and improving the lives and livelihoods of farming communities around the world. In his recent interview with Down To Earth, Dr. Bhandari highlights why community animal health workers are our first line of defense against emerging zoonotic diseases. His insights reinforce a principle that has long guided Heifer's work; healthy animals, healthy people, and healthy ecosystems are deeply interconnected. Therefore, Investing in local capacity is not only improving livelihoods today, but also helping build stronger preparedness for tomorrow's health challenges. Congratulations to Dr. Bhandari on this well-deserved recognition. We invite you to read the full interview and explore how community-led animal health systems can contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/gkWhbNsb #AnimalHealth #OneHealth #CommunityAnimalHealth #CAVE

  • When women farmers have access to finance, knowledge, and the right support systems, the impact goes far beyond their fields. They strengthen their households, contribute to more resilient communities, and play a vital role in shaping a more secure and sustainable future. Yet, despite being the backbone of agriculture, women are often overlooked in decision-making spaces. Recognizing them as leaders and change-makers across the entire value chain is essential to driving meaningful and lasting change. Progress lies in creating systems where women and youth have equal access to resources, opportunities, and technologies and where their voices are heard and valued. By fostering inclusive, locally led approaches that are connected to broader partnerships and innovation, communities are better equipped to adapt, grow, and lead their own development journeys. #AccesstoFinance #FinancialInclusion #IYWF #YearofTheWomanFarmer #WomenInAgriculture #FoodSystems #InclusiveGrowth
