To operationalize this transformative interoperable payment system, a contract signing ceremony between 1LINK and partner banks was held today at the BISP Headquarters, Islamabad. The ceremony was chaired by Chairperson BISP, Senator Rubina Khalid, and attended by senior leadership from the State Bank of Pakistan, 1LINK, Habib Bank Limited, Bank Alfalah, Bank of Punjab, HBL Microfinance Bank, Easypaisa, JazzCash, and the World Bank. He highlighted the option of interoperability in the payment mechanism, allowing beneficiaries to choose from multiple service providers for receiving their payments. He said that social protection is a fundamental responsibility of the state towards its most vulnerable citizens and not merely a policy choice. He emphasized that Pakistan’s social protection system is evolving, with increasing focus on innovation, climate resilience, digital transformation, and long-term economic inclusion. He said that programmes like Benazir Kafaalat currently support over 10.2 million families, strengthening financial inclusion through direct payments to women, while initiatives such as the Benazir Hunarmand Programme are creating pathways to self-reliance and economic mobility. 𝐈𝐍𝐀 𝐋𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐋, 𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐌𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐃𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐏𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍 "Today, I had the opportunity to inaugurate seven new Mobile Registration Vans that will help bring BISP registration services closer to people living in remote areas of Pakistan. This is not the launch of a new programme, but an important expansion of an existing initiative. With these seven additional vehicles, the fleet has grown from 25 to 32 vans, further strengthening outreach to underserved communities. Since 2022, this initiative has enabled the registration of approximately 1.3 million people. We will continue supporting these efforts while closely monitoring their effectiveness and impact. The German Government remains committed to working closely with BISP and other development partners to strengthen social protection systems in Pakistan.
