Throughout July, we had the pleasure of welcoming Marek Straka, a PhD student from Mendel University in Brno, to our facilities as part of an Erasmus+ mobility programme. This exchange was made possible through the collaboration between our partners at Mewery and Allmicroalgae, within the Horizon Europe CBE-JU Microalgae ALLIANCE project, which aims to advance innovative microalgae-based biorefineries. During his stay, Marek had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with our industrial-scale microalgae production processes, connecting academic knowledge with real-world applications and deepening his understanding of biotechnology at commercial scale. Reflecting on his experience, Marek shared: "Since my studies, I’ve always been passionate about industrial-scale biotechnology. Thanks to Vladimíra, Mendel University in Brno, and the Erasmus+ programme, I had the amazing opportunity to spend time at Allmicroalgae, a leading company in microalgal biotechnology. During my time here, I was able to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Getting hands-on experience and seeing how large-scale workflows and commercialization steps operate in real life was a huge milestone for me. 🌱 #SPROUT is progressing as planned! We recently held the first monitoring meeting of the SPROUT project, selected under the I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS cascade funding scheme. It was a valuable opportunity to review the project's progress, discuss the work completed so far, and align on the next milestones together with Maria Elisa Zuppiroli and Anup Paul. From our side, team members Natacha Coelho and Mª Helena Cardoso presented the progress achieved to date and outlined the next steps towards the successful implementation of the project. Regular monitoring meetings like this are essential to ensure strong collaboration, maintain momentum, and keep innovative projects on track as we work towards more sustainable solutions for European agriculture. 🌱 Algability is officially underway Last week, Allmicroalgae had the privilege of hosting the kick-off meeting of #Algability, bringing together our partners ETH Zürich and GreenCoLab for three days of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning. From facility visits and scientific seminars to project discussions and alignment sessions, the meeting marked the beginning of an exciting journey focused on a shared goal: 🔬 Advancing our understanding of how microalgae can improve the bioavailability of essential micronutrients in human nutrition. At Allmicroalgae, projects like Algability embody what drives us every day: ✅ Science with purpose ✅ Strong links between industry and research ✅ Partnerships that transform knowledge into impact The road to this point began long before the project launch. Following the positive evaluation of our Eurostars/Eureka proposal, we are now moving forward with great enthusiasm and commitment as we continue the national funding process with ANI | Agência Nacional de Inovação, under Portugal 2030.
