Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) are known as an important strategic sector which has th... more Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) are known as an important strategic sector which has the potential to contribute towards GDP, employment generation, poverty alleviation and regional development particularly in the developing countries such as Sri Lanka. However, the main issue of SMEs is poor business performance that affects adversely their survival in the long run. Among other reasons, poor risk management practices have been identified as a main cause for such failures. Although risk taking is a fundamental for business performance, not managing the former properly will have an adverse impact on the latter. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the mediating impact of risk management on the relationship between owner's risk attitude and business performance. The study was a basic explanatory type quantitative examination that followed the deductive reasoning method. A conceptual framework has been developed based on the literature survey that provided the basis for empirical investigation. Out of the SMEs established in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, 200 SMEs have been selected as the sample of the study following the random sampling procedure. Data were collected on researcher-administrated questionnaires and were analyzed using SPSS statistical package. As per the stepwise regression analysis, it was found that risk management practices of SMEs mediate the relationship exists between the owner's risk attitude and business performance. Based on the findings, the study recommends that owners of SMEs should implement appropriate risk management practices in their SMEs while government institutions related to the SME sector should provide them with necessary support to establish proper risk management practices in their organizations.

In Sri Lanka, SME sector causes vigorous impact in the economy for promoting growth and social development. Even though, the potential contribution is substantial SMEs are struggle with risk management and survival problem in Sri Lankan economy. Further, there are recognized empirical, methodological and practical research gaps in the field of risk management of SMEs. Therefore, the aims of the study was to develop a model to investigate how risk management process and owner's characteristics significantly impact on business performance of SMEs. Thus, a systematic literature review was carried out by applying measures such as key words, language, type of the article, time frame and specially Emerald Insight, Google Scholar, and Science Direct libraries were considered. The systematic literature review facilitated to recognize justifiable research gaps and develop a model to show the behavior of risk management process and owner's characteristics on business performance of SMEs. The developed model can be used by researchers for conducting a quantitative analysis and thus it will fill existing theoretical research gaps. Further, results of such a quantitative analysis will help to develop a discussion comparing and contrasting with results of other studies. Thus, this study helps to fill existing empirical research gaps also.

The independent variables are independence, internal audit quality, management support, expertise knowledge and cost. The dependent variable is internal audit outsourcing. According to the literature five hypotheses were developed. The sample consists with fifty management level and operational level employees of Finance companies which outsourcing internal audit function in Kandy urban area. A questionnaire was used to identify the factors affected for outsourcing of internal audit function in finance companies. In this research twenty one dimensions have used in questionnaire which developed using five point Likert scale ranging from "Strongly Disagree" (1) to "Strongly Agree" (5). Statistical Package for Social Sciences was used to analyze the data.. Different analyze tools are used in this research to measure the relationship between independent variables and dependent variable Such as reliability testing, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Researcher builds descriptive hypotheses to identify the impact of independent variables on the dependent variable. Researcher tested hypotheses and could identify three variables are significantly impact on the dependent variable. They were internal audit quality, expertise knowledge and cost.
